Hi I am new to this :) I've attempted to quite smoking several times but always cave in. I have noticed that a lot of the comments I receive when giving up are negative therefore I thought this sight may help (early days-15 hours smoke free)

Hi EMC! Congrats on your quit! I won't be negative and nobody else here will be either from my experience. One day at a time, sounds like a cliche but it works. Sometimes I was down to ONE HOUR at a time or ONE MINUTE at a time, but I did have to break it down to that sometimes and I just passed my one year mark after 35+ of smoking so you need to find what works for YOU. Hang in there, do NOT let negative people invade your life or de-rail you on your goal. YOU DO NOT FAIL UNTIL YOU QUIT TRYING....remember that.

There are a lot of posts here for your to read--do that, it helps to not feel alone and to know what you're feeling others have felt!

Don't be afraid to ask for help. SO many here WILL step up and help you all that they can! Congrats, Good Luck & Stay Strong...it IS worth it!

Hello and welcome!

Well done on deciding to quit and for being 15 hours in!

You won't find any negative comments on here because quite frankly, they are unhelpful. There are lots of us on here, all having used or using different methods and at different stages. We also have all situations pretty much covered so if you need advice, support or just need to rant, feel free to do so.

Quitting can be a somewhat lonely process, so post as often as you need to. Our admin, RoisinO1 has put up loads of pinned posts to help you (information is power when quitting).

Keep going. One hour at a time!

Hi Roisin01. I'm going cold turkey this time. I usually use patches however I end up smoking and using patches. Now been 17 hours... Finding things to do around the house and garden to keep be busy. Trying to be very mindful :)

I too stopped cold turkey, that was over 2 and a half years ago and here to tell the tale!! Yeah, it was a rollercoaster of a journey but so worth and the best achievement of my life so far :)

Continue to keep busy, lots and lots of water, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and a little exercise daily to clear the head....

EMC..warm welcome and thank you for a friendly positive entry post...Surely you have seen the famous quote of Mark Twain..."Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times."

So, there is no shame and nothing wrong to continue to try to quit..some get it the first time....others become serial quitters until they succeed ..and for me that is brave..!

To quit smoking is not easy but very possible...You can do it.!!

Strongs !!

hi EMC425

welcome to our little family
