Happy New Year! 2 drink or not 2drink is my question.

In just 2 days we can all (1year and under) say we quit last year. :) Today am at 3months quit. I quit drinking coffee and wine bc each seemed would trigger craves. I have had decaf coffee a few times lately and now feel more ok with it. I really want to have a glass of wine on New Years Eve and to celebrate this quit. Since i will not be out (pet sitting party lol) I thought I may be strong enough. I smoked 35 years so will have many triggers to overcome. Any thoughts?

Hi, I'm in the same boat with whether to have E a drink or not, I've decided not as I know I will really crave a smoke. I've also had to give up coffee for now to. I think giving up smoking is definitely a big lifestyle change and even changes social events for me to as I use to like to catch up with friends for a beer or a coffee and now I'm a bit lost with what to do. If you think you won't crave a smoke then go for it.....best of luck and happy new year 😊

Thanks for advice. I didn't. Just wasn't ready to risk it. I think you're wise to avoid those triggers at first. I know I wouldn't have stayed quit had i not avoided them. Adding coffee slowly has neen enough for me. At least at this point. Happy New Year non smoker Beccabobo :)

I’ve been out for drinks since quitting smoking, like you I’ve smoke for about 35 years between 18/20 per day, If you decide to have some drinks, do not go outside when your friends go out for a smoke, be firm with yourself and remind yourself that you quit for a reason and alcohol may cloud your judgement, just stick to NOPE and you will be fine, you are strong, happy new year xx

Thanks Newbeginninhs for that advice. Ended up having craves w/out a drink so decided against one. Am pet sitting so thats a trigger in itself. Been here before (bored and used to smoke a lot when i was here). I forgot you smoked same amount of time too. You really are a great quit bud. I will have to celebrate later. Happy New Year!

Funnily enough drink was not a trigger for me but coffee was , haven't really drank it since because made me anxious. As Beccabooboo suggested have a drink if you feel strong enough, if cravings hit, as you are not going out, stop drinking and go to bed content and happy that you are heading into 2018 smoke free 🤗🍷🍾

Aw Roison i was terrified of coffee tee hee. Have to drink decaf now. Have you read how caffeine is processed differently as a non smoker-more potent. ? Alcohol always made me tired so i wonder if that will worsen too. There was a Harry Potter marathon on so I watched it. Read all the books when they came out amd waited the year after to watch each movie. Thought that would be a good way to pass time w many craves as described above (pet sitting &smoking in past). It was. Happy New Year!

hi Exsmo

I try to avoid drink,it really does not agree with me 😒

if I'm happy I do silly things, play loud music or if I'm sad I argue 😈( really doesn't take much ha ha )

I'm happy not drinking,if only others would not give me drinks or keep moaning for me to have one.

if your ok and stronger enjoy a drink.always be on guard 😁

Good points thinlizzy. Have been a bit sad & hadn't thought of how it deepens whatever you're feeling. I didn't after all and had a good movie night with a sweet dog i was sitting for. 😉

As you are not going out, you have more control over the drinking if cravings hit, Roisin is spot on, just head to bed and be thankful you ringing in the New Year smoke free :) Enjoy your night!

In my experience one or two drinks is fine, especially at home. It's when I was out and had 7 or 8 that the cravings took over and I would do something silly.

Ultimately you call the shots, do what you feel comfortable with. Happy New Year!

That makes a lot of sense Nozmo. Have done silly things "out" too. More comtrol at home. Happy New Year to you! You've been a big help to me.

Had a couple beers for New Years ( 2 days later ;) went off w/out a glitch. No more craves. No less, but no more. Whew. Glad to have tested it at home.
