Huge welcome to our community and being our 2,000th member. Perhaps create an introductory post to share your story.

I am thrilled that we have reached this huge milestone and how far we have come as a community. Since we merged with HealthUnlocked back in March 2016 we had 472 members to now 2,000 which is an increase of 75%.

Thank you to each and everyone for joining and providing great support, help, advice and encouragement and wishing you all continued success and strength in your smoke free journey :)

Well done to you for keep this all going. Dont mean to put a dampen on it. But it would be nice if some more of these people registered here joined in abit more. Im thinking about joining another forum where members actually bother to reply to posts.

Laura6 i try but only have phone . Don't always see when someone has replied. Haven't been on a few days (sick&bad eyes strain to read small phone). Perhaps others may have similar issues. Hope you know I appreciate you & others replies. Been reeeeally wanting fake "comfort" of a cig but haven't smoked. THAT is because of help and understanding and tips I've learned on here.

Just because people may not say doesn't mean they aren't being helped.

For myself & others who may not be able to be on here for various reasons Thank You to all who help And all who are learning how to quit.

We are stronger together and this is a great place to be. RoisonO1, you are one awesome lady to help is all w/out complaint. You inspire me!

Hello Laura6,. Today I feel as if I've turned a corner. Not sure what corner but today on my Quit journey I just felt different somehow. Oh well, that's a good thing. Enjoy the rest of your day 🚭🔡 Jeff

How's that Laura6 ? Do people just fade away if they start puffing ciggarettes again? 😘

Hey laura6 - I know exactly what you mean, think it is a catch 22 situation, some members appear to join just to browse through posts and get the help they need without getting involved, some join, share their story, get advice but fall in their journey and forget about here.

I try to get new members to engage and do check up on them for about about a week after they join but tend to hear nothing from them again and likely they have started smoking again. In the past, I have done polls, games, fun and off topic things, but the novelty wears off after a few hours, a day at the most.

With long terms members, some have got what they need from the community and some just post on yearly milestones, others have things going on in their lives at different periods and don't have the time or feel up to posting.

It would be a real shame for you to leave us, as yourself along with Laureenc Atta1 Exsmo miranda45 Amc86 have been a great asset to the community, engaging, helping and support each other and others here. But if you feel you are not getting what you want from the community, go ahead and join another forum....

I will get my thinking cap on to try and engage members :)

I think you do an amazing job. You cant do anymore than you already do. I do think people would find their quits alot easier if we conversed more. Instead of sitting their struggling or wondering about something pop on here.

Totally agree with both points - RoisinO1 does an amazing job and this place would really benefit from more people posting about what they're going through. It's all fine old timers like me trying to help but there's no substitute for people who are going through the same thing, at the same stage in their quits, supporting each other.

Totally agree, I know I valued the support, advice and encouragement from members at the same stage when I started - for members over 6 months, year etc... giving advice is great to have their experience but for me I felt it sorta disheartening not to be at their stage and when we start the first month seems so far away....

Hey miranda45 - very good point raised about the community reminding you of smoking, I felt that too some times early on in my journey and imagine a lot do feel it too and just come on to lurk when they want and happy enough in their journeys without the constant support.

For me, if I didn't come on, I felt lonely, which it can be, and was nice to read posts, share feelings and struggles that other people were experiencing and to offer support.

That missing something as your stage is normal and sort of like grieving, as smoking was our side kick for so long, it will pass soon...keep up the great work :)

I agree Roisin, it does remind me of smoking- but the pitfalls of it. How desperate it made me as an addict. I've been fortunate to never had another addiction but god this one was awful and this community reminds me I'm not alone. Thanks for engaging us all. I'm very grateful for all of you.

Hey Laureenc - how are you getting on?

Laureenc profile image
Laureenc1 Year Smoke Free in reply to RoisinO1

Surprisingly I'm making it. My living situation has become unmanageable and I'm working part time. I'm packing up and trying to keep things together for my little girl. Feeling all the guilt of all my mistakes that led up to this. Bad resume, being bipolar and off my meds for over a decade- I have no job skills. Anyhow, I'm still clear of the habit. And I check here when I can. Just been a bit busy. But yes, thank you. Thank you for brightening my day and thinking of me. I'm sorry I'm a Debbie downer at the moment so I will hop off with a good night and have a pleasant day ahead!

What you are doing at the moment Laureenc is a HUGE achievement, I consider it my best achievement to save me from slowly killing myself. You are trying to better your life for you and daughter in so many ways since you stopped, be very proud of yourself and what you are doing for your daughter.

Wishing you strength and success, you really are doing so well :) Keep in touch when you can.....

I find it's a lie i miss. That's why I couldn't put my finger on it. I want the fake "comfort" of a cig... Then I remembered its part of the addiction nicodemon trying to get me. NOPE! Not one puff ever! ...or i'll be right back at at day one & I don't ever want to have to go through that ever again.

Awww Roison you are very kind! Thanks for the mention. Your site brought us together and it's pretty awesome to see what a bit of understanding can accomplish! Don't know how I'd have done this without you. Am off Chantix 2days then .05mg on 3rd day. Tomorrow will be 12weeks!😀

I'm still here, 16 days today yay :)

Don't want to create a post everyday and bore you lot, but I am here numerous times a day and reply when I can.

We are all doing so well.

It's weird, yesterday I realised I actually craved cigs more when I smoked. I still get the odd craving but it's more thoughts of smoking now than a crave and yet when I smoked I craved a lot, in the morning, in work, after dinner etc xx

laura6 profile image
laura61 Year Smoke Free in reply to Atta1

Glad to see you. Your nicotine receptors are quietly dying so you havent got the nicotine monster screaming at you for its next fix. When we smoked thats what was happening hence the craves. So its the mind games you have further along in your quit. The little voice saying have one your stressed, happy a reward etc. You have one you wake up the sleeping nicotine monster

Atta1 profile image

I prefer my nicotine monster sleeping so gonna try and keep him that way lol x

Haha me too. He got seriously shouted at the other day. Kept bothering me. Iv tried this giving up a few times now. Got his number. Know his tricks. You are going amazing. Just think we can say Jan 1st we gave up last year. How cool is that Atta1 x

It's so cool :) I have smoked for 20 years, have tried to give up a few times, my last quit was in June, tried cold turkey and lasted about 2/3 weeks. It was so much harder that time. So happy I went to the smoking clinic and got Champix x

laura6 profile image
laura61 Year Smoke Free in reply to Atta1

Iv been smoking 30 years nearly 2 packs a day Eeek. This is my third attempt with Champix. It really does help. The hardest part for me is staying quit. Im using a CBT app aswell this time to help with the psychological side of things. That has always been my achillies heel.

Atta1 profile image
Atta13 Months Smoke FreeValued Contributor in reply to laura6

Wow so you was smoking almost 40 a day. When you've smoked that long it is all your brain knows so it'll take time for it to realise you don't smoke anymore. Fingers crossed the CBT app helps you.

I listen to Joel spitzer videos on YouTube, they are helping me a lot. He is the man behind the whyquit site. He's against giving up smoking using aids but everything else is fab

Exsmo profile image
Exsmo in reply to laura6

Laura6 as a fellow champix user did you start again soon after getting off champix? Am struggling a bit after coming off. Not amoked just thinking of it more yesterday. Today is better.

laura6 profile image
laura61 Year Smoke Free in reply to Exsmo

When I quit for 6 months on champix before I was fine coming off them. It was a drama in the family that caused ME to loose my quit. Stupid it didnt solve anything. I have been sick as a dog for the last week. So couldnt take my champix. So been using my ecig x

Exsmo profile image
Exsmo in reply to Atta1

Ata1, me too. Actually feel less stressed too. Reading post or article about how we were ALWAYS in a state of withdrawal when we still smoked is a great reminder to me. Helps me realized i am no longer stressed about the when to smoke, how to hide the smell etc.

Laura6 what is the CBT app? Am finding the psychological difficult too. 35 years here. Am so proud of us all. This chatting between us is very helpful. I too like the whyquit.com. even if i too use champix. His NTAP Never Take Another Puff got me through first days knowing what one puff does.
