I want a cigarette!!!!

I smoked my last cigarette on Feb 3rd 2016 at 10pm. I have found that it is getting harder to deal with not having a cigarette. I am very short tempered with everybody and to be honest i do not care what i say or if i upset anyone.... I am taking this out on everybody else.... which is very unfair and i dont care if i am unpopular, which is so unlike me.... im normally a people pleaser. I know its the social side of it as i cant stand the taste or the smell of cigarettesl... so why do i still feel the need to smoke?..... stress/family problems are not helping... the weight gain you name it im moaning about it.... all because i want a cig... I just feel what has happened to the "nice me".... some advice and encouragement would be appreciated.

Hello jaffajuice, sounds like you're having a hard time of it. How long have you been feeling like this? It could be just a blip...you're well into your quit so you probably know feelings like this come and go. If you have a cig it will taste disgusting and won't live up to what you think it will be...honestly, I've done it plenty of times and it's always a let down.

The weight gain is a real pain, I put on half a stone and it drove me mad...hated it! But you can lose it once everything settles down.

You're almost exactly a month behind me...don't do it!!

Please don't be put off by the lack of response: it's slow Saturday and the site is playing up something rotten today so it's hard to post for some people.

Jaffa, I know that the emotional turmoil is the hardest of the symptoms of quitting - but we equally know that it does not last forever. Things will get easier and you have come so far it would be a tragedy to give in now - stay strong and persevere - you can do this!!

Sorry you are feeling this way. Did you quit cold turkey, or using NRT?

Quitting is the hardest thing any of us will ever attempt, and we attempt it a lot. Nicotine is a powerful drug and will make you want it when you really don't need it. Keep fighting it. You have achieved so much quitting for so long.

You mention about weight gain. This is also my worry. I read about the cycle we create by doing eating and smoking in a free book on the Whyquit.com site which was helpful. Might be worth reading.

Hi thanks for your reply..... I went cold turkey.... just wish I could do the same with the eating lol...... I will have a look at the Whyquit.com site. thank you.

try to keep fighting.were all fighting.

you are doing so well.your winning now.

take care 😊

keep kicking 😎

Sorry to hear your having a hard time - your what, 4 months quit now? Far enough away from smoking to have forgotten quite why you quit in the first place maybe?

You say you want a cigarette ... can I ask why? What do you think it will do for you? Is it going to help your stress? Family problems? Weight gain? Stop you being grumpy? Or would it just make you cross with yourself 'cos you caved and have put yourself back to square one?

To be honest, I felt out of sorts and not myself up to around 6 months quit. I was sure I had left my sense of humour behind. But around 6 months I started to feel normal. I wasn't 100% back to my old self but a newer, better version of myself. I'm more short tempered than I was before and don't put up with bullshit that I would have previously washed away with a nicotine fix. It's not necessarily a bad thing.

Come moan to us - we can take it :)

Hey Joanne, great to read an update from you. Over 100 days smoke free, that is great and some achievement, well done! Your badge is on its way!

You appear to be at the 'Icky Threes' stage that we all seem to have gone through when we pass the 3 month mark (see pinned post below). It will pass soon, I promise Joanne....

Like Miscy, I too only felt normal when I reached the 6 month mark..... You can get through this, just hang in there a little longer, wishing you strength. Keep us posted on how you are getting on :)

Sorry for the late reply Hidden it's not a nice place to be is it!? You haven't smoked for 4 months, yet you still get strong thoughts on smoking.

Firstly, don't lose heart. You are winning, it may not seem like it, but you are. Congratulate yourself on that.

Right now you are romancing that cigarette, think of it as an old boyfriend or girlfriend. The further you go away from that relationship whatever trouble you had been each other, never seems so bad and then doubt steps in.

All of a sudden you start thing, they weren't that bad. And the romancing begins.

It the same with the pain of quitting. Being 800 days into my quit, I can remember that I struggled but the full extent of the pain has been erased from my memory.

Stick with this and in promise you, you will come out the other side and it's worth it :)
