I'm telling you all to stop myself from doing it...

I've just been out for a lovely meal to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We have all had a few posh lagers and, at the minute, I could really, really fancy a smoke. I have to go to the off licence to get more booze in so I'm posting here to prevent myself from buying any tabs. I'm going to walk in there, buy the booze, nothing more, and then I'm going to come straight back home.

Hey Nozmo, you know how rotten you will feel if you just have that one and what it can lead to, celebrate with your daughters birthday celebration that you are back on track almost 3 weeks now, and walk into that offie with your head held up high that you are NOT going to cave in, wishing you strength, you know its not worth it, keep us updated, you can do this....

Wahey - success! Beer only, no cigs. Now I still want one but I can't because I haven't got any and the shop will be shut in ten minutes.

Well done Nozmo, enjoy the guinness and raise it up that you didn't cave in!

Nozmo, you are starting to become a master on this business :)

Now seriously... Can you understand now why I said I've come to realise that quitting become my life rather than the other way around?

I've been where you are so many times that one day I just said ENOUGH! No matter what happens smoking is not an option.

From that point on, it become easy because the option is no longer there.

That point will come for you too.ive got the feeling you might be closer to it than you think.

Well done tonight and happy birthday to the girlie.

Good on you Noz, glad you didn't cave in ! can you imagine waking up know you had smoked? - for me that would be the end!

Never the end gazza, you fall, get up and go again.

Quitting is a very long process...

mmaya's right gazza; if you get knocked down, get straight back up again. Eventually it will stick!

Thanks for your encouragement.

Doing amazing, those tempting moments do pass don't they?

Well done to you

They go away when smoking is no longer an option.

I had many terribly stressful situations since I quit and I didn't even consider smoking.

Last week I had one horrible day... One of those that really pushes you to a fag. I went to sleep at 2 pm instead.

Smoking did cross my mind but immediately - NO. Smoking is not an option, not today, tomorrow we'll see.

I know people who still get the urges after 10 or 15 years Tracey. I think they have just learned to live with them. How about you? Did your cravings ever fully leave you when you quit long term?

in reply to nsd_user663_59644

There's a difference between a craving and an urge though... I DO NOT HAVE ANY cravings at all.

In the first month the cravings were so bad that I wasn't always able to control myself, they were actually stronger than my will power.

That's not the case anymore.

I think about them every so often but I am able to talk myself out of it with no effort.

Hangover this morning. I stink of booze and I've got garlic tongue but I least I haven't got the taste of an ashtray in my mouth. Thanks everybody.

Good for you Nozmo, be proud that you didn't cave in, can you imagine the horrors with the hangover if you had of caved in!

Good man! I know you will win this battle.

The battle with the hangover is harder then the smoking battle today Feel...yuk!

I have never smoked much when I had a hangover - always made me feel much worse.

You sound like you have fire in your belly at the minute mmaya - nice to see you in this good place!

I'm not really that good Nozmo, Ive been in bed very sick with migraines for the last 3 days.

I always suffered from migraines, that's the reason why I stopped drinking.

When I stopped smoking, I got a few months without any migraines and I was so happy with it...they came back to hunt me around Christmas... So bad that I actually thought I was having a stroke. I thought it was the champix... This Thursday they came back...mother of God!

I can't figure out what is the trigger... It's getting much worse, yesterday the pain was so bad that I have no words to describe it.

I'm up from the bed today...still feeling weird but I'm much better.

As far as smoking is concerned, I will never touch a cigarette again.

I've done this enough times, I don't think I would be able to go through the same thing again.

I wish I had a magic wand to touch your heads and share the feeling. It's a state of mind, you will get there.
