Help I'm stuck in a rut:(

Well I'm gonna start my day one once again to Tomm.

Iv tried so many times think to myself I'm not gonna smoke Tomm and first thing I do is go to the shop and buy a pack as soon as I get up.

I know it's wheel power and self motivation I know it's in there but I feel like I can't do it.

I'm feeling bad effects of poor circulation tired moody etc and the pocket being hit hard.

Tomm is a fresh start and I'm gonna think positive and hope I can stay in the right frame of mind :)

Good luck everyone xxx

Fear

Hi Emma

I think it sounds like you're afraid to try. We've all been there don't worry. The thought of not smoking is scary when you've been doing it for a long time. It's obvious you are desperate to quit but fear is keeping you smoking.

When you wake up tomorrow and want to rush to the shops come on here instead and post. Wait an hour and when you realise that your brain hasn't exploded and you haven't gnawed through your own arm you'll realise life can and does go on.

Try it you might surprise yourself:D

Hello Emma, nice to meet .

Yes I quite know what you mean, I use to do that nearly every week, and yes, as already been spoken about it was fear, fear of the unknown. Stopped me from trying.

Now I once asked some one what happens when you stop smoking, the reply was nothing !!!! How right they were.

I had a plan, I used nicotine patch to help, and for me it worked, a plan is good it gets you focused.:):)

If your going ct, then plenty of peeps on here to help.

Please just post and read as often as you need, we all had to have a start date, and guess what if you get through a day, you can do another day.:):)

I wish you a good start tomorrow.:)

Please keep us updated

Hi Emma

We're all rooting for you. It's such a mind game isn't it?! Keep posting so we can support you. When these mischievous thoughts come, like 'I really need a fag', just keep on asking 'is it true?' and I mean ask it a million times to the one thought, and not only will you find a truthful answer that says 'no it isn't' but the persistence will send nicodemon scurrying away with its tail between its legs!

Emma, hope you're still with us but if it went pear-shaped again may I second what Butercup suggested? If you were to decide to quit at, say, 9.00 in the evening (and get an early night) you'll already be half way through Day One by the time you get going in the morning. Worth considering anyway. :)

Whatever you do, we'll be here to help you as much as you need.

All the best to you from me. ;)

Emma,

'Stuck in a rut' sums it up very well - repeatedly finding yourself back at day one is not a good place to be. It's a sobering thought that every single previous quit, started with hope and good intention, ultimately ended in failure as you ran back into the welcoming arms of your own worst enemy.

By definition, every single one of us can only ever have one successful quit and that's the one between your last cigarette and your dying breath, but in the meantime, every failure chips away at your self confidence and you despair that you will ever break free. What makes you think this quit will be different from all those other failures? How are you going to make sure, at last, that this is the quit that really sticks? The answer for me was to think long and hard about my entire relationship with smoking.

Most smokers will tell you they love smoking. They find it hard to explain why this is, but they know they enjoy it. If you're one of these people then you're almost doomed to failure before you start. So long as you think like this, you will feel you are depriving yourself. You will romanticise thoughts of smoking, even months into your quit, and sooner or later you will throw in the towel, you'll decide one won't hurt, and that will be the beginning of the end of yet another failed quit.

The trick is to educate yourself, before you even embark on a quit, to the point where you realise - really realise - that you don't love smoking at all. Far from being a dirty little pleasure, it is a highly controlling drug addiction. The only 'pleasure' to be gained from smoking is to relieve the withdrawal pangs. It solves the problem it created in the first place - a simple, transparent con trick which all of us fell for.

Think carefully about your relationship with smoking and you will find something 'clicks' early on in your quit and the process of qutting becomes a breeze. Go into it in the belief that you are depriving yourself of your best friend and you will struggle along until you fail. Getting into this mindset can be hard, but once you get there you will find you are comfortable in your quit very quickly.

I hope you find your 'forever' quit!

There probably hasn't been a day in the last two years I haven't thought about quitting. Like you, I would run myself out of smokes and tell myself tomorrow is THE DAY, then would rush out and buy a packet as soon as I could.

I am 32 days into my quit now and how it worked for me was I had those first three ciggies in the morning then used all and whatever NRT therapies I could get my hands on.

So for the first week it was patches (hate them - leave a nasty rash) inhalers and lozenges.

Only after 4 weeks did I stop using the inhalers and now I am just on the lozenges (and only a few of them a day).

Other people on this forum have gone cold turkey and won.

I would just say do what ever you need to do to put off that cigarette for a minute, an hour, a couple of hours, or a day.

Think in manageable chunks. Come back to the forum regularly - it will help you see that this journey you are going to embark on will have its tribulations but is nonetheless do-able.

I am thinking of you, hang in there.

Well didn't go to plan

Well I had the motivation but it got the better of me:(

The past few days has been manic and I know no excuse because when is a good time? Never is a good time it's just me mind and motivation that will quit this nasty habit!!!!

I have just smoked my last one again but I'm working Tomm and working in a hospital might help as I never smoke there.

Patch in side ready for morning and iv even set my alarm clock 20 mins later so I can't rush to the shops for my fix b4 work.

Tomm is gonna be my first day of a new me as I won't be smoking:)

Emma, I will hope things go well for you today. Do post when you can to let us know how it is going.

May I make a suggestion? It sounds obvious I know, but I found it was really too difficult & scary to think of never, ever smoking again. The only way I could handle it was to decide not to smoke today (or this morning, or until an hour had passed, or whatver timeframe seemed appropriate). If you can break it down into small packages of time it's much easier (and the time doesn't half mount up- you'll find a week has passed almost before you know it).

Anyway...may your Day One be a kind one. :)
