yep 3 and half years, I am still amazed with myself (sorry for the self praise) but as a smoker I never ever thought I could be smoke free for one day let alone 3 and a half years.
And if I ever come up against obstacles in my life I always think, 'hey if I can quit smoking I can literally do anything'
I took up running about a year and a half ago and at the start it was tough but I thought this should be a piece of cake compared to quitting, so when I hit the invisible wall at about 2 miles into a run I think, 'come on Mrs you quit smoking so keep them legs going and keep running' and it always works.
take it from a totally addicted nicotine junkie, YOU CAN DO THIS just stay strong

3 and a half years is totally brilliant, boo......a huge "well done" to you from me!
I absolutely see where you are coming from re the amazement that you mention. I am just coming up to 7 months quit (it would have been 8 and a half if I hadnt had a blip/fag 6 weeks into my first quit :mad BUT back in the early stages of my quit, I used to see people in the "rooms" further along and I thought they must have had something special that enabled them to stay quit.....some sort of "special powers"; I just couldn't ever see myself being so far along. But, here I am, almost 7 months quit and I am just so amazed to be here! I was wrong about the "special powers"....what is needed is a dogged determination to achieve your goal and to not let anything get in your way.....sometimes it's a real battle, but we must win those battles if we are to succeed.
The stop-smoking adviser, who I saw initially, told me of a man in his 90s who managed to quit after smoking for over 80 years.......many is the time I told myself that if he can do it, then so can I!
I agree with you also when you said that if you can quit smoking, you can do anything and it does us no harm to remind ourselves of our amazing achievement here. It's also brilliant because we can help new quitters with the lessons that we have learned on our own journeys!
Hey boo! I havent been on here in so long. Yes u should praise yoursefl afterall u have done the impossible!!! I cant believe i quit too so i know how ya feel!! 4years here we come!!
