Day 1- Thoughts on the day so far

Good Afternoon everyone,

First of all, can I please say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who replied to my intro message yesterday. You have made me feel so welcome and reading messages of support really helps you get through days like today.

So basically all day I have been thinking of smoking. There have been no major craves so far but that isn't uncommon for me. I have been here before and today I almost skip about thinking "Hurrah, I am a non smoker!" For me, its those days (even months) down the line where your mind really starts to play with you and you end up convincing yourself that you can handle that fabled "Just One"

But anyway I digress, so my thoughts are firmly on smoking today but I had a great moment about 11am when I realised that I hadn't thought about fags for a glorious WHOLE 2 MINUTES!:D

I now think how amazing it must be to go hours, days and dare i even dream, months of not thinking about smoking. Just gotta get through these tough few days and I am ever closer to that dream.

So one question though, will I start to think straight again anytime soon?! Its been ages since last quit and I can't remember what it feels like. Right now I just feel like a zombie and nearly banged the car this morning:eek:

Thanks for reading

Stacey

For me the quit was all-consuming, like I couldn't think about anything else. It passed after a couple of weeks though and now I can go hours without thinking about it. Sound like day 1 is going well for you! x

Well done Stacey! :) It looks as though you have this quit nailed and, from previous attempts, you know the majority of what is to be expected. It's really just about getting through each hour as it comes for now.

From what I recall the zombie state lasted for the first 4 weeks for me, though getting less so as each day went by. I hope this helps.

Looking forward to your day 2 post! X

Thirded re the 'Living Dead' stage. Around a month for me too with it gradually tailing off as the days passed. You do come out the other side eventually, Stacey, but that doesn't mean it isn't pants whilst it lasts. ;)

Fantastic that you have Day One under your belt though! Just keep ticking off the minutes and hours rather than looking ahead. It really isn't long before you realise you have started to count in months.

Well done you! :)

Thanks for all your responses.

I did curse myself earlier when I said that I haven't really had cravings today as just after I posted that I had a MASSIVE one that seemed to last for ages.

But I didn't cave, and each time I don't give in, I just get stronger!

I loved Jenny's advice about ticking off the days, it really made sense to me and so now I have Day 1, ticked off ( very nearly)

And I love the progression of this forum!! Tomorrow I get to move up a day in the discussions and that in itself gives me a sense of achievement.:)

Thank you so much everyone for your support, I am truly overwhelmed and really grateful. I hope to help others soon, but I feel like a bit of a novice in this game right now.

I DID NOT SMOKE TODAY AND I WILL NOT SMOKE TOMORROW!

DAY 2 HERE I COME :D:D
