Val's Month Three

Well, I am just amazed and delighted to have reached Month 3 today! :)

When I look back to Day 1 (both of them ), reaching Month 3 seemed like an impossible goal.......I couldn't see how I could ever get there and I felt that those who had reached so far must have had some special power which enabled them to get here! But no, it isn't a special power, it's determination and a positive attitude........an "embracing" of the quit, being totally dedicated to it 100%, learning from past mistakes and applying the learned lessons, finding ways to deal with problems properly, rather than just reaching for another fag and, last but by no means least, this blooming brilliant place and the brilliant people on it! I have learned so very much from you all and I know I wouldn't have got this far without you all. Thank you all so much....really!

I'm down to half a Champix a day now and anticipate being off them totally in about 7/10 days' time. My stop smoking advisor said it takes about 3 days for Champix and it's effects to leave the body, so I shall be on guard for that.

The money saved.......well, that is just amazing! Now that I have my annual tickets for Westonbirt Arboretum and the National Trust, I can have lovely days out, which I never used to be able to afford. So now, half of my ex-fag money goes into a savings account for my old age, quarter goes into a rainy day fund and quarter goes into the general weekly housekeeping purse. It's just all so brilliant....financially I feel so much more secure now and it is such a relief. :)

If anyone is reading this who thinks they won't ever be able to quit, or is scared to take that first step...........please, please, please believe me and believe all of the others who say "you can do this", because it is the truth.

Awwwww, guys......you've brought a tear to my eye, with your kind and lovely words, sticker and flowers. Thank you all so much. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This forum (for the most part ) shows human nature at it's very best as far as I am concerned.....helping each other, encouraging and supporting and celebrating with each other. I feel so passionately that anyone can quit, as long as they go about it in the way that is right for them. I promise not to mention my stop-smoking adviser too much more, but she told me of one man she has helped to quit and he is in his 90s and had been smoking for over 80 years. It was when she told me that, that I knew it must be possible for me to quit, it was just a matter of finding the right way.

As Carol says.....onwards and upwards! :D

Day 9 and struggling

Congratulations Val.......as a struggling day 9'er I have been spurred on by your post today.

The side effects are awful and I was considering giving up on the Champix but, you have shown me that there is hope, and I sooooo want to be smoke free.

Wouldn't it be great if I could just FF>> 3 months?

Well done Val I notice you quit 16 days before me, does this mean I move into month 3 on 28th December woo hooo not long then :)

Thank you for the kind comments and support. :)

A couple of things...

Donna......you post from the place that you are working on, so when you have done 2 months without fags, then you move into Month 3.

Ashbydebs......what dose of Champix are you on? If the side effects are too horrific it may be worth having a word with your stop smoking adviser/nurse/doctor. They may adjust the dose. But I am not a medical person....I'm only going by my own experience.

But no, it isn't a special power, it's determination and a positive attitude........an "embracing" of the quit

Well done Val, and think you hit the nail on the head - once the right mindset kicks in it becomes entirely doable. For some it kicks in quickly, others are still struggling even months into their quit - and it's easy to tell which camp you're in; it leaps off the screen!!

Once you stop fighting the addiction and start embracing the freedom the whole experience becomes a positive one and failure just isn't an option:D:D

BUT

Have to say

WELL DONE VAL

:D :D :D

I would have gone large but can't do that via my phone

And indeed onwards and upwards is the only way to go

Hi Val,

I am on 2mg twice a day and the side effects are so bad that I didn't take my morning dose today...... Is it possible to have withdrawal symptoms after missing just one day? I've been anyhow this evening  I will see my advisor on Monday.

Thanks Egg, Carol and Molly for the kind and encouraging words! I really am amazed at how much easier it gets once you've got your mind right. I frequently think about fags and sometimes I still miss the habit a little bit, but it's nothing that causes problems.......like others have said, the thoughts can just be batted away!

Ashbydebs.....can you find your way around the forum? If you go to Week 2 (which is what you have reached) and start a new thread then you will get more replies, I am sure! I am not a medical person, but the maximum dose of Champix 2mg twice a day can have really horrible side effects, as a few of us here can testify. Reducing the dose to one a day can be the answer....it worked for me, and also changing the time of day that you take it can help. If you get the nightmares then the tablet is better taken in the morning and that certainly worked for me.....my nightmares were terrifying. But speak to your advisor, although I should think you'd be fine on one a day. They stay in the system for about 3 days so I would think that any "symptoms" you are having would be related to the Champix, rather than nicotine withdrawal as the nicotine will have left your system a week ago. But as I said.......I am not a medical person and can only relate my experiences with Champix. I hope this helps a bit! :)
