Beating the bloat ideas more than welcome

Soooo i thought i would start a thread for those of us that have a prob with battling the bloat due to quitting the cigs.

The idea is to post any tips/ideas however irrelevant they may seem, as they may help one person...

Diet is a confusing word... to be honest, i'm as confused as the next person regards, what is a healthy diet... if your constipated then your supposed to eat more fibre, alot more fibre, so you eat fibre only to find it causes big time wind, which can be embarrassing for us ladies (yes ladies) and complete and utter amusement for you men... then on top of that, there is bloating and trapped wind and shed loads of pain, clothes that don't fit, and a total grotty feeling with no energy...

So this isn't so much a diet it is more a healthy eating lifestyle

Any recipe ideas are also more than welcome, from brekkie, snacks to the main meal dishes.

Must just stress if anyone thinks they have bowel/stomach problems not related to quitting, advice from a doctor is always the best option before embarking on changes to their diet.

Foods high in fibre:

Bran Flakes

Porridge

Weetabix

Wholemeal bread/pasta

Fruit and vegetables (of course )

Nuts and seeds

Jacket potatoes

Water is so underestimated and really does help maintain good digestion! :)

this is great, i do an awful lot of cooking in either my tagine or slow cooker but this worked well on the hob too as didn't have a lot of time, i used chickpeas and butter beans.

Juice

Hi, will have stopped 11 weeks Saturday, and to be honest put on stone and half, look like a round lollipop.

So have started juicing, veg and fruit, it it s wonderful and now have a few great recipes, but my energy levels are soaring , was not prepared for that, so have a juice for breakfast (delish) and lunch with couple crackers and evening meal as normal it's fab. , and the weight coming off. :p

You ladies ought also to pluck a leaf from the Gentleman's book of Jolly Japes-Men generally treat a good rasping fart as a huge joke and are rather proud,in fact very proud, whereas you ladies are far too shy to let fly and get bloated as a result :D:D

Says who? I've been a 7.5 tonne lorry driver and spent 6 years working in a warehouse, I have not issues at all with releasing my masculine side ;) I can swear like a navvy too :D My bloke says there's nothing feminine about me

Kat if they think it's IBS it might be worth looking at low fodmap? It made a huge difference to me but I'm not very disciplined :(

Ha Jen a lorry driver so funny x

It's true! I was a multi drop delivery driver in Cheltenham & Tewkesbury. And then I spent 6 years as an order picker for Asda distribution, firstly in Portbury then Chepstow. I am now an bookkeeper - I'll have a go at anything me :D

oh dear having bloating issues isnt pleasant at all :( ive had alot of probs with this for many years due to probs after surgery and have tried everything that a doctor can prescribe but have always had probs with side effects :(

so i turned to natural cures and have found a heaped spoonful of manuka honey melted in some hot water then add 2 spoons of apple cidar vinager mixed with some ginger oh and add some lemon juice works a treat also charcol capsules help

the thing with having too much fibre in your diet will cause more problems with bloating and gas

also herbal teas are good chamomile and honey ginger and lemon and of course peppermint teas and capsules boots do some really strong ones

honestly i have a two shelfs full of different boxes herbal/fruit teas:o but even just manuka honey on its own its really good for most tummy bowel probs ive been drinking it for years its just gotton abit expensive and popular in recent years though so i cant use it as often as i used to

as to those umm probiotic drinks that are supposed to help i watched a programme about what they use in them

natural ingrediants with no man made bits in is best

but i know everyones tummy is different

hope you find something that helps

Apple cider vinegar is wonderful stuff, it does great things on the outside as well as the insides - my colleague drinks a pint of hot water with ACV and two teaspoons of clear honey every morning and she swears by it.

I've tried apple cider vineger drinks and they didn't do much for me except make me feel like I was detoxing all the time, and the taste....bleh. I've been doing the local raw honey thing for a couple weeks and I haven't noticed much of a difference, but I do seem to be a little bit more alert and have more energy during the day.

My favorite for fiber and feeling healthier is smoothies. Here is my base recipe:

2 bananas

1 cup ice

1.5 cup water

Then you add whatever you want to it

Blueberries - great because they add sweetness and there are no seeds

Oranges/Orange Juice - adds a nice sweetness to the drink

Strawberries - can get seedy, but still very good

Rasberries - amazing if you can afford them

Blackberries - these are ok if you can tolerate the seeds

Apples - taste good but make the texture grainy

Milk / Yogurt - either works well to add some creaminess to the drink

Protien and other dry supplements can be used but I would be selective about which fruits to use (Bananas and Strawberries are usually safe)

you can also make it a green smoothie by adding a couple of nutrient dense kale. (WARNING: Do not use dairy products with kale because it will curdle)
