Another little lightbuld moment

Hi, all Day 32 foe me today, so I know this doesn't belong in Day One but I hope by putting it here it might help others who are thinking of quitting or are on that awful first day.

I had a really long meeting in work yesterday and found myself thinking about smoking - I should say it wasn't a craving, just thinking about it. It occurred to me that even if I was smoking that would have been an awful day - I'd have been sitting in the meeting absolutely wishing the clock to get around to lunchtime when I could get outside and smoke. Then I'd get back after luch would be totally self concious that I was stinking of smoke and the whole thing would start all over again, within an hour or two I'd be wishing for a coffee break so I could do it all again, then wishing for the end of the day....

So, the lightbuld shine a little brighter for me, I didn't actually like smoking, all I liked was the ending of the feeling of wanting to smoke.

I am so happy to be breaking the chain :-)

That is so true!!

We all were convinced that smoking felt good - that when you "needed" one having a deep drag was fab - but all it did was shut the craving up *that* felt good, not the fag.

Remember being very disappointed when I had my first fag because 1) it didn't feel anything much (was expecting something amazing) except for 2) feeling incredibly sick and prickly.

Smoking doesn't add anything, it just takes away - money, health, self respect you name it.

Hi, neveragain! I'm glad you are keeping going and getting stronger!:)

You said "....the ending of the feeling of wanting a smoke......."

Allan Carr puts it very similarly. He wrote that you only have a cigarette to relieve the withdrawal symptoms from your previous one; that it is a vicious circle. It shows how nasty nicotine addiction is, doesn't it!

And yes, that awful day would have been even more awful if you were a smoker, because all the time you'd have been sitting there thinking "I want a fag" as well as putting up with the awful meeting.

It's funny how, when you are a bit distanced from it, you can see how nicotine was conning you all the time.

As you say, hopefully this thread will encourage some potential quitters to take the plunge. Stoptober is nearly here and it would be great if there were even more quitters kicking the nicodemon's ass!
