So I've just decided to quit :) I'm nervous about getting anxious as I do suffer from panic attacks but I'm wheezy and out of breathe walking ten minutes to the school which is making me worry about my health (vicious circle ) I've always blamed my smoking on how stressful my life is ,disabled daughter, money issues but its finally hit me that's life and if I want to enjoy it and live longer I HAVE to quit so here goes .

Hey good luck-I'm also new to this but after numerous attempts am determined this time to do it. On day 12 now and feeling the benefits already. Went for my first run last night as a non smoker and it was amazing-no coughing, no wheezing.....lungs feeling so much better already.

Who needs a smoke when fresh air is soooooooo amazing!!

Welcome to the forum.

First thing, don't worry that this isn't your first quit attempt - this will be the one that sticks. Lots of us have had numerous quit attempts and we do struggle to get there. Never doubt the decision that you have made. You will get some great advice and support from everyone on this forum.

The best advice, as strange as it sounds, is don't look at this as a quit. Look at it as I won't smoke for the next 15 minutes/1 hour/day. Then you get to feel proud a lot more often.

All the best and well done for taking that first step :)

Hi Mamfa and welcome :)

You're off to a great start and going cold turkey is brave!!

Posting here really will help - would definitely have given in without this place!!

We must have started the same year 'cos I'm a year older than you and started social smoking at 13.

Anyway arm yourself!!

When you get craves, try to take your mind off it - keep your mind busy, drink water (it sounds bizarre but it helps) keep your hands busy and chew gum - all of those will ease your cravings, so does posting on here 'cos this place is fab!!

Am another one who uses Rescue Remedy sometimes, have got it in gum which is pretty good 'cos the chewing helps as well :)

Good luck!!

Also hun remember nothing easy was ever worth doing, so the fact quiting is hard...tells ya alot! xxxxx

Hi. Mamfa,I gave up six months ago after smoking 43 years 30 odd a day so if I can do it any body can ,just stay focused, treat your self with money you save then you can see the rewards, good luck onwards and upwards

Hello, Mamfa, you've come to the right place! The lovely and wonderful people on here will give you so much help and support.

You blamed smoking on the stress in your life......that is exactly what I used to say and I was convinced that it was true. But it wasn't....I can see that now, it was just excuses to carry on with the stinky fags. :o

Read as much of the forum as you can, so that you see other peoples's quitting experiences and problems and how to deal with them...it really does help to see how others are coping and succeeding!

You can do this. I used to think it was corny when people said "If I can do it, anyone can", but I can see where they are coming from now, having smoked 15-20 fags a day for 41 years myself. You can do it. Honestly! Use this place if you have any questions or if you just need to have a rant or a scream!
