Hi Everybody! I am new on here so just thought i would say hi!

I am on my 3rd day taking champix and my quit day is monday.

Have been a smoker pretty much for 20 years recently smoking 20-30 a day :-/

Tried patches, spray, inhalator, gum etc, hypnosis, books and nothing has worked.

Really determined this time tho so hoping the champix helps!

Had THE most horrible dream last night which i am told is normal!

X

Hi Sophie :)

Well done for deciding to quit and for joining here - there's lots of helpful people who will cheer you through the good times and help you past the bad ones!!

Know several people on here have used Champix so they'll be able to tell you what to expect.

Know what you mean about having tried before - but this time is the one, have heard Champix is fab and posting here makes all the difference too!!

Gemma xx

Welcome to the madhouse Sophie and well done on deciding to quit. You will get lots of help and advice on this forum from the friendly people here. It may be helpful to join the champix social group. Along the blue bar at the top of te page you will see quick links, click and select social groups and there you will see Champix users along with a group for April quitters, both of which I would recommend.

I have often heard people mention Champix and vivid dreams but nobody has ever said what they are dreaming about.

I'm just wondering if there is some sort of pattern to the dreams people are having.

I've heard people say they had naughty ones, lol. Better than the nightmares I got on patches!!

nsd_user663_54332 profile image
nsd_user663_54332

That would explain why it's popular :D

Lol, well I might have done Champix if I'd known about them!!

nsd_user663_54332 profile image
nsd_user663_54332

It's all lies Gem, I seemed to dream more and they were more vivid but I didn't get the naughty dreams everyone else talks about and I was dead miffed about that!! I even considered complaining to the manufacturers!!:o:D

LOL I wonder what they'd have said!!

Having a great experience on the champix on the 2nd time round. First time I was on it I quit for 6 months, this time I'm making it permanent!

If you do find yourself getting Nausea there's a few easy ways to fix it:

1. have it halfway through a meal.

2. Eat 4 Ginger cookies

3. Eat 2-4 ginger gummie bears

4. Drink 500-750ml of good Ginger Beer

5. Take it with a sedative - that way you get that warm fuzzy feeling before you go to sleep (not recommended for anyone ages 10+.)

Also, social groups wise, feel free to join the April quitters group too!

Thank you all so much for making me feel so welcome!!

Day 4 tomoro so 2 1/2 dose tablets..... I seem to be smoking loads today so am wondering if they are working already? Im just not getting the usual hit from a ciggy so smoking more!?!

nsd_user663_57059 profile image
nsd_user663_57059

Me too! My GP actually asked me whether I was enjoying the dreams (with a big grin on his face) so it's evidently a well known side effect, sod's law that I didn't get that one!:(

My dream was more of a nightmare! Defo not naughty in anyway :-(

Hi Sophie and good morning to you.

hope you are coping well with the champix, dont forget to drink loads of water, everyone says it because it is really important. I bet you are getting quite excited about monday, when you get there and pass a few days as a non smoker you really will wonder why you bothered to smoke for so long.

Glad you are already building up your forum support by posting on here often, it is really nice to follow a journey, today is my 21st day as a non-smoker and already I have seen some disappear off the horizon, so sad not to know if they quit quitting or just didnt need us. I look forward to following your journey with you . xxx

That's good :)

Don't know about you but I always found smoking dried my mouth out so when I quit smoking, I drank less which isn't good

Have to remind myself to drink plenty now 'cos I don't get that nasty feeling in my mouth.

Trea's right by the way, when you smoke you can't imagine not doing it and still enjoying things (well i couldn't) but now it seems really weird that I "had" to go outside 20-odd times a day for a fag

Good luck for Monday!!

Hi Sophie well done I`ve been on Champix for 2 weeks now and on my second day of not smoking.I have been lucky and not had horrible dreams I have felt sick though.I wish I had given up before my 14th day I really dont think I`d have found it that hard I just thought I`D hang on smoking till the end.The Champic really does take the edge off the cravings its just a habit.Ive bought sugar free sweets and lots of fruit as I was eating too much and have gained 5 pounds keep up the good work it is worth it even now I feel sooooo much better

Only on your third and going for the quit so early? Nice!

I was 3-4 weeks or so into my champix before I quit (docs recommendation for me personally). Nothing else worked for me either but Champix is the bomb. Don't know what day I am on now but havent had a smoke in ages!

Not sure if I have said hello and all that but Hi! *waves* Welcome to the Forum!

Hi Sophie and welcome, glad your trying to give up for your hubby and kids, its prolly one of the best reasons ever next to doing it for yourself ! I hope it all works out for you, this forum does help so keep popping on, i went CT so dont know what the champix is like but im sure there are lots here who will let you know what to expect, it wont be long before you start posting in each of the threads making your way up to month one and then further on from that, at first it might drag in but stick with, think of the benefits and your family, good luck :)

Hey Sophie,

Welcome to the forum and well done for jumping onto the wagon! How have you found today?

Haven't used champix myself but have heard good things about it. Some odd side effects, but it seems to do the trick! :) x

Hi :)

Today has been ok! The champix is working as every ciggy i have had just hasnt given me a buzz like it normally would if that makes sence? Im not sure if its just my imagination tho or if the champix csn start to work so quick?!?

Took to two 0.5mg tabs today and the only nausea i had was at about 2pm! Weird as i never ever feel sick and it was 6 hours after taking first dose!

Still aiming for quit day being monday :) 3 days to go

nsd_user663_57059 profile image
nsd_user663_57059

Sophie yes,Champix is kicking in :D

Each fag will feel a bit weak and will give no satisfaction, might taste a bit C-O-A-R-S-E,you just won't enjoy those. When you quit on Monday (you could make it Sat or Sun?) you will not miss those cigs at all,Champix blunts the craves. You are bang on target!

I am going to stick with monday Max i think ;) weekends tend to be a bit stressfull with hubby home, me working, kids at home, dance classes etc Monday hubby at work, kids at school & nursery so i intend to spend the morning at the gym to take my mind of those first few hours! My aim is to just get through the day and take one day at a time initially :) i smoked loads yesterday, mainly i think because i just wasnt getting the hit? Will try and cut down over the weekend ready for the first day of the rest of my life on monday!

The posters whose stories I'm most interested in are those who've been smoking at the same sort of level for the same number of years as I have.

Hi Aquarius,

It takes a shockingly short time to fall under the thumb of Nicotine; and once under the thumb, it really doesn't matter how long you stay there, what matters - now - is your decision to break free.

So please don't think you won't be able to relate to other quitters who've smoked for less or more time than you. We are all on a common journey, but we are all different, and so some advice and experiences that you read will resonate with your own journey more than others.

What matters most is that everyone on this forum is here to offer support when the going gets tough (as it invariably does) - but that support is a massive boost when you need it most, so never hesitate to call on it as needed. I know plenty on here would agree that this support community is a real lifesaver / quitsaver. If you need it 24/7 then that's fine, someone is always here who understands what you're going though. Enjoy the journey!

nsd_user663_54332 profile image
nsd_user663_54332

Maybe there is scope for a 'buddy' system here.On a sort of semi-formal basis? So any new quitter can be sort of mentored by someone-if they wanted that? Would that idea have any legs do you think?

Sort of like our Musketeers?

That would be good - know you guys stopped me smoking and think I've returned the favour too :)
