Isn't that great?

No more going out in bad weather to get your fags, and no more standing out in the freezing cold smoking them too!!

What the hell was all that about?

Well done for going CT as well, it's definitely the best way to go if you can :)

Good stuff Dave

Just use us here as support if you feel yourself wobbling,we have used every trick in the book plus a few more to avoid the cancer sticks :D

Yeah, we're pretty awesome really ;):p Lol.

Well done so far Dave. I hope you enojy a week off, lounging around inside. I love it when it rains and you imagine yourself huddling outside in a coat for a cigarette. Afterwards you'd smell like wet dog when you came back inside. E

What was I thinking?!

And do you remember the pitying looks you used to get?

People walking past looking at you huddled up like that and you could just tell what they were thinking.

More I think about it the more I can't understand why the hell I smoked so much for so long and why i started again after quitting :(

What I don't get, is why I would force myself to stand outside in the cold, or to spark up when I was out shopping, or to smoke when I was poorly.

I still get that pang to want to smoke, which I'm sure will go with time, but the result of said pang is always the same. "Hold on, why do I want to smoke? Well ... I don't."

It sickens me to know that I genuinly believed my own excuses when I asked myself that question. "Because it relaxes me", "Because I enjoy it". Ha!

It's quite worrying!

Oh it's just ridiculous!!

I'd never think about it, I was a smoker so I smoked - even when it was very unpleasant to do so.

Wouldn't stop when I was ill unless I really had to, how stupid is that?

Me too, but it's a lot less now than it was!!

I do the same thing, and have never come up with a good reason to have a fag.

The rubbish I fed myself to keep smoking *shakes her head* "I like it/it calms me down/it's part of me (WHAT?)" or that "I was doing something for me" and I just accepted it!!

Actually, that makes me angry, how could i have let my life be run by a stupid plant?

Yes please!! *Gemma Lou does the evil grin too*

Yay!!! FIGHT, FIGHT!!! Nic O'Tine about to get pasted all round the ring by the murderously angry Gemma Lou and her fists of fury!!!

He doesnt stand a chance, fists and frying pan - he's toast :D

It really confuses me though, I knew it was harmful, I hated having photos of me taken smoking 'cos a good look it is not, but still carried on

I think because it's still fresh in my mind (and we are still very much dealing with a rollercoaster of emotions here), I can't necessarily understand why I put myself through that but I'm not really mad about it.

I kind of pity that side of me, that felt as though a cigarette was the answer to my worries. :o

I know what you mean :)

Now I can't remember what smoking feels like or tastes like (except horrible - was forever switching brands to find a "nice" one, then settled for OK) but the way I've protected myself from lapsing *again* is by getting angry!!

But yes, I do pity that part of me too - "needing" cigarettes to function is pretty sad

Hi Poppy, I'm sorry you're feeling so rotten :(

You haven't let yourself down by putting a patch on, if it stops you smoking that's good!!

Feeling something is missing is totally normal - we've all gone through that on here and (according to Allen Carr) that's withdrawal. Even if it isn't, you've smoked for however long so "normal" is having a fag however often which you don't now!!

It will pass, in the mean time pretend to smoke something (a pen, roll of paper, lolly stick) to trick your brain - sounds daft but it works!!

Keep going x

I think that's one of my favourite things about the book.

When we start smoking, usually as teenagers, cigarettes taste horrible! But we force ourselves to smoke until we become desensitised to that taste and we begin to "enjoy" the feeling.

Apparently we tell ourselves that, because the taste is so bad, there's no chance we'll become addicted.

Then, before you know it, the nicotine has taken hold and it doesn't matter how it tastes anymore :(

thank you

hi gemma lou12

thank you for your posted, the moment has passed thank god[well patch done its job] i no this may sound daft but i can't pretend to smoke , like for me i can't use a e-cig because i no ,am not strong and i would start smoking again. I've had to brake all ties from cigs i.e. hand to mouth, feel of something in my hand. x hope you have a love day and thank you again x

Was thinking about that when I typed my post 'cos I read that bit last night!!

It really struck home for me 'cos the first ones I smoked felt and tasted horrible - nearly threw up - but thought everyone else enjoys it so it must be good, right? :(

Flipping stupid!!

Oh that makes sense Poppy, and you're very welcome :)

Basically there's no right or wrong way to quit so long as you do it!!

Your craves will get a lot less and you feel really good for having beaten them :)

Hope you have a nice day too x
