Hi all!

Well im still here and plodding on. I would love to say its getting easier, but its not! Its not so much that im craving for a smoke, its more that i seriously think that i have developed a compulsive eating disorder. I remember before i stopped smoking thinking that i was always either on a diet or eating like a greedy bitch. Well in the 6wks that i 've stopped smoking i've put on a stone and a half! I have never been overweight but im nearly there now. I cannot stop eating, im not just talking about a few extra biscuits here and there, i am seriously eating everything with no self control whatsoever. I was working yesterday doing home visits, i was in a patients kitchen and noticed he had left out half a packet of fags and a few biscuits, i remember looking at them thinking i could just take a ciggy or a biscuit, well i hate to admit it, but i stole 2 biscuits!!!! Feel so bad, would never normally cross my mind. The thing is it was easy to resist his fags.

This is making me so depressed and worn out. I know that most people do put on a few pounds when they stop smoking, but this is beyond a joke. I could just cry. I really dont want to smoke, but it seems the only way to get rid of this horrible compulsion.

Sorry for being all doom and gloom :(

Hey

A few things

1) don't be sorry

2) read your footer ... 'Loving life!' Get back to that

3) I know what you mean, I literally can't stop eating either have put on loads of weight and hate it as I was always the skinny one that people commented on or aspired to have legs like!! BUT look at the smokers next time it is raining huddled in the doorway! SMELL that faggy smell that terrible stale smell as they walk past you! THINK about how much cash you have saved already! THINK how much easier your life is! No panicking about being stocked up, no hiding it ... For me just the saving in perfume must be loads already!?

Basically don't worry about weight .... It's not an addiction and its easier to sort it's better to be a few pounds over than coughing your guts up. Maybe do a good brisk walk round the block? Will burn Cals and get endorphins going so you feel better

And finally (forgotten what number I am on!?) there are LOADS of people out there who feel the same I am just one! I was so miserable this weekend I cried and cried, so fat etc but then someone asked me today if I had ever smoked and I told them all about giving up and WOW I felt so proud, sod the few extra pounds get us and what we have achieved!! Think of all those people who have failed and given up on giving up! We are the strong ones and we will reap the rewards!!

Be proud!!

Here endeth the lesson xx

Hi well done on reaching 6 weeks :) that is just amazing I know how you feel I have been eating non stop for around 2 weeks!!!!!!! ( have stopped smoking for 3) I have never exercised before but have just joined a local running group which keeps me focused and helps out with the fitness maybe you could try a little exercise ? Don't know if its your thing x

If there was a 'like' button max I would have just pressed it!! Wise words :)

Aw thanks for words of wisdom, and the kick up the backside that i need! Think i am wallowing in self pity instead of doing something about this. I feel so bad that i actually STOLE food!!! Max please dont send me down! Yes the answer is to accept im gonna put weight on, so i should get my arse moving by going for plenty of walks, maybe even breaking out into a jog! On stopping smoking my aim was to get alot fitter, i do envy joggers every time i see them, but the only one stopping me from doing it is myself! Well here goes, gona start shaking my booty all the way to the local park and back, thats a promise! You are all right on saying that we only live once and need to look after our bodies. Incidentally, the patient who had biscuits and fags in his kitchen also had emphysema and was on oxygen, but still smoking. Just another reminder on the importance of stopping smoking now.

Thanks again for the advice. I will take heed. Brave face being painted on tomorrow and just going to get on with it and stop feeling sorry for myself!!

Hi Denise, Great to hear you are still doing so well! 6 weeks... BRILLIANT!

Like the others said, a bit of extra weight is much better than those filthy sticks, so don't beat yourself up too much.

I must admit I did laugh about the fact that you STOLE two biscuits hahaha

If you do start jogging, I would suggest taking it easy to start with. Your lungs will be able to cope surprisingly quickly (first couple of jogs will be painful), but if you (like me) haven't been keeping as fit as you should have been over the last few years, it takes a while for you're muscles and tendons to get used to it. You could look into the couch 2 5k plan.

All the best

Well done Denise, 6 weeks is brilliant and I sympathise with the weight issue, I too have gained weight and feel really bad about myself. However I am so glad I dont smoke anymore and I have promised myself I will do something about the weight soon. Spring is nearly here and that always makes you feel like getting inshape.Keep it going and glad you sounded more positive in your later posts:)

Just jumped on here before work to say a big thankyou to you all for being so supportive this past week. Without you all i would either be SMOKING, in an ASYLUM, or in PRISON for theft! Haha.

Honestly this week has been a real toughy but i feel as though i've got through it and back on track. It is so encouraging to hear that you are actually 'normal' in feeling the way you do and that others have either gone through or going through the same situation.

So a massive THANKYOU to everyone!!!!:)

Hey Denise, doing really well with the quit, go you!

I've been reading the post in the Managing your Weight part of the forum, I need to shed a bit too so I'm posting there. They really are good even if just for morale. And I've joined the 'until the pants fit' social group.

One person posted they'd gained four stone  Then (and because it's friday) I read that they'd replaced cigs with crunchies and had one whenever a craving arose. They were on ten a day!!! :D

I spat my coffee out when I read that.

you're doing great Denise, good to hear form you!

Hi Denise, if it's any consolation i'm feeling exactly the same... I've never been overweight but the way i'm going i'll be on a ch4 documentary by the end of the year  I don't know about you but with me I know I have a really addictive personality so now instead of smoking I'm eating non stop...

On the bright side at least you're not smoking so well done :)

Denise x

Thankyou my 'fat friends'! Hehe!

Denise i know its so hard, i do think that i also have an addicted personality. I think the best we can do is to try and become addicted to something else, like healthy eating and excecise! How good would that be! Have to make a start to become addicted though. Hawks group 'until the pants fit' sounds good so will be joining that. I never went out walking today because of the snow, tried the treadmill instead, but the damn thing only works for a minute and a half and cuts out. uft! Its so easy to become depressed and eat even more. I know its hard to stop smoking and diet at the same time but i have to or i'll end up worse. Got the ingredients today and starting the cabbage soup diet tomorrow. It really works and is also a good detox which is great to clean your insides after smoking for so long.

Going to watch my boys band playing tonight and chill with a few glasses of wine, then its a total health kick from tomorrow.

Best thing of all is that we havent smoked during this nightmare, so hopefully the best is yet to come!!

Lots of love. :)
