Day 1 'potentially' - Champix Day 10 (has it stopped working?)

Hi all

I'm new to the forum. I'm on Champix Day 10 today and have been given a quit date of Monday 18 March by my cessation guy.

I've been getting some usual side effects (nausea, tiredness, dreams), but hopefully nothing too severe.

The first cig of day 8 didn't provide the usual hit, and subsequent cigs didn't. I purposely didn't WANT to smoke, so instead of my usual 20, I only smoked 6. I thought it was a BINGO! moment, that the Champix was satisfying the nicotine craving whilst I dealt with the trigger/habit side.

Day 9 found me craving for cigs, which disappointed me. I ended up smoking 9 yesterday, which whilst better than normal, I found it tough. :(

Day 10 today - I smoked a cigarette this morning, but felt disappointed, so I haven't had one all day. I had a couple of puffs on a disposable e-cig I have lying around, but I've really found it tough and had massive cravings. To be honest, it feels like cold turkey!

Am I beating myself up too much? I know my quit date is Monday, but if I smoke, I will be wracked with guilt.... or am I just not ready on the Champix yet?

Thanks for the advice Kat73!. Your story seems kind of similar. I've just pushed myself to see how far I can go without having one more. I'm figuring that as I've gone this far today, knowing I have to go through it all again on Monday, it seems a bit pointless lighting up now ...

I've taken my evening Champix about an hour ago, and the cravings are easing slightly, I must admit.

Ged,

I'd get some professional advice if you're thinking of using an e-cig (or any other form of NRT) with Champix after your quit date. Can't say for sure but I very much doubt the two will work together.

Thanks all for the advice. Over 24 hours smoke-free! My quit date's tomorrow, but I thought "What am I waiting for?". To smoke myself silly 'til then? And give Nasty Nic time to plant the seed of doubt? ... I threw the first punch instead. Game on!!!!

Roll on tomorrow :)

Ged

A warm welcome to the Forum. I don't know anything about Champix, but just wanted to wish you well as you embark on your quit journey.

Please take baby steps, and try not to look too far ahead.

just like Gedhart..giving up is for a multitude of reasons be it finanancial or health benefits..let me explain, if I can crave your indulgence for a second..I am a seventy year old pensioner that has smoked for fifty years, when you could get five Woodbines for five pence in todays money..old habits die hard with us old 'uns...Ill come to the point, for the last five days I have been smoke free and never touched alcohol.. it is, I'm sorry to say that today that I relapsed,I know, and feel empathy for those who put their health and wellbeing for their families and friends..never give up trying.. Ive been there..as ever..good luck..rog

I am also using Champix.

I initially said I would quit after 5 days, but that was far too early for me.

So I set another date of 14 days,I did manage to stop on day 14.
