I totally understand! I'm into day 7 now and I've been the same today. Can't focus and can't get my words out! I'm a uni lecturer and couldn't remember the name of one of my students! Thing is, I know her really well and felt very embarrassed! Bless them, they were very understanding!
As said on other posts-your body has for years had to develop ways of coping with daily intakes of foul poisonous fumes.I mean, would you, every day put your mouth over a car exhaust and inhale it-not that different. When you had your first fag it was gross right, and made you cough and feel sick? That was your body saying 'Don't do that to me,its harming me,don't do it'
Of course,we know better and batter the body into submission with 10 or 20 fags a day until it develops some way to COPE.
Now 10 or 20 years later, you suddenly pull the plug on fags.
Your body thinks-What the Hell?
And it takes from a few days to a few weeks for your body to re-assess what is going on and change its ways of coping. That effect is felt through muscles, through thinking, sleeping, eating, the whole lot.Once your body believes that smoking is over,it begins to apply the normal, natural and safe methods back to lungs, muscles, brain, smell, taste, sleep.
Pretty bloody clever thing, the human body.
Am pretty much back to my normal self now - I'm pretty dopey at the best of times though
Lol, I never coughed but wow my first one made me feel like I was dying - was actually scared 'cos I was all prickly hot and cold and felt really sick.
Hey Mrs C me again you should feel more normal within a day or so but then no doubt something else weird might happen we are all so different!!
I think the first 7 days or so are definitely more physical in terms of symptoms and then its more mental ~ I seem to remember posting on about day 11 that it felt like ages and where was the big fanfare and now all of a sudden time is flying by and it's so much easier
My biggest recommendation use this forum like you are - check things are normal, check other people have felt that same, just type to keep hands busy and to fill your time. In no time at all you will be wondering what all the fuss was amount x
Jet lag is a good way to describe it!! I keep having those great times when I think I'm done with it and then I get that sneaky nicotine ....ooh, go on have a fag feelings. I need to stop it!
Glad your pretty much back to normal how long did it take ? I'am still feeling spaced out like I have jet lag !!!!! X
Thanks It was a few weeks for me but then I'm pretty dopey at the best of times Might have been worse for me 'cos I was on patches and didn't get any sleep
