Hi all, new quitter here!

Hi everyone, my name's Claire and I had my last cigarette at 6pm last night. I stopped once before for 3 years but I'd stopped because I was pregnant, this time round I'm stopping for me, I've been doing this for 5 years now, and I'm trying to get fitter & healthier. The year before last I took up running and lost 21lb but stopped in the winter and I think it's all gone back on, so this time I'm stopping smoking first THEN going back to running - it should be much easier to run!

I think my only difficult bits will be taking the dog out for a wee or for a walk as I'd always have a fag then, and the ones I used to use for 5 minutes peace during school holidays, so I'm looking forward to going out with the dog and enjoying my surroundings, paying attention to the garden, maybe I should keep some seceteurs by the back door and do 3 minutes of garden tidying out there instead! :D Sounds much more useful...

Anyway, haven't really started to miss it yet as I've only skipped, hmm, 3 or so, so signing up now & looking forward to 'meeting' you all!

All in this together

Hi Claire

Big pat on the back to your first day of getting free. I am only on day 7 today but found so much support in reading this forum in the early days...even though I couldn't post back then.

School holidays are next week for me and I am a bit apprehensive as in the past when the kids were arguing or getting to me I just automatically reached for my roll ups and took myself off for 5 minutes. It’s about retraining my mind in that smoking didn’t help calm me down and thinking of something else for my 5 minutes escape. 5 minutes of gardening sounds like a good plan.

Keep going keep using this forum and we will get there.

Thanks all - day one done and I'm doing...okay so far, I think! The dog's getting on my nerves but I'm not sure if it's more than usual (she's just a year old last week, and an excitable beagle!). I'm thinking about smoking almost constantly - not as in thinking about re-starting smoking, but just 'about' it for some reason. Distracted myself with tv today, and hubby has promised to get the boy from school tomorrow so I don't have to walk home with my son's best friends nan - who smokes on the way home, I mean, I never did as I didn't do it in front of my boy, but I don't want to be smelling her smoke at the end of the second day!

I'm feeling proud of myself already! :D

Welcome! Just a random thought.... I read somewhere that dog’s sense of smell is about 1,000 to 10,000,000 times more sensitive than a human’s. I wonder if your dog is going to react differently now.

Roosa.

Hi Claire, welcome to the site.

It's the best place to be, this forum. You have all the people who are just starting their quit like you, to bolster each other up and share the experience, and then you have longer term quitters who are past the worst and can give you some sound advice and encouragement, and then there are some long term quitters like me who stick around just to enjoy the banter and prove to the newcomers that there is life on the other side of the obsession :D So something for whatever mood you find yourself in, on this journey we call quitting....

Hang in there, you're doing a great thing.

Helen
