Hi all. I'm 32 and have been smoking since I was 14. There has not been 1 single day in the last 18 years that I have not smoked. Thought about quitting and even been to get advise a few times over the last few years but still have been puffing away on 20 or 25 a day. UNTIL TODAY.

Got some patches yesterday, had my last puff at 10 pm last night. I was freaking out about having no smokes in the house for this morning but I got up, slapped on a patch and have been very surprised.

No smoking all day for me. Sorry to blow my own trumpet and I know it's only day 1 but I'm quite proud of myself. Off to bed now as I'm starting to struggle a little. Have been reading the forum all day and is nice to read so many success stories, I only hope I can be one of them.

I know this is going to be hard and I am waiting for some kind of symptoms to come along and slap me but so far so good. Not looking forward to tomorrow as so many people say they feel worse on day 2 but will try my hardest. Best thing so far is the smile on my daughters face when I collected her from school today as was able to tell her I have not smoked!!

Any advise or tips would be really appreciated

Thanks all

Hi Lauren

Congratulations on making the best decision you've ever made :)

If it isn't hard for you then don't look for symptoms, just go with the flow. I think sometimes we blame a lot on quitting that we shouldn't do, we should just try to get on with our lives and take things as they come. I hope it stays really easy for you :)

The NRT will take the edge off so enjoy your freedom.

Take one day at a time, don't think too far ahead just live in the moment and enjoy not having to smoke.

The best healer is time.....before you know it you will be weeks and months down the line...and it will feel great.

You summed your quit up right there when you said:

Best thing so far is the smile on my daughters face when I collected her from school today as was able to tell her I have not smoked!!

That is fantastic.

Take baby steps, keep your memory green and always remember why you quit.

You CAN do this :)

Keep posting and take care

Greg

Lauren.......I have been smoking for 20 years....... I have stopped since 1st Jan..........you will get lots of valuable advice on this forum to stay smoke free.........my recommendation to you is when you start getting the urge to smoke....or you get the voices in your head suggesting smoking will help you feeling better.......don't give in.......come on this forum and explain how you feel.......someone will help......we all need help at times.........just stay positive and smoke free.....

Well done Lauren :) Keep going & before you know it you'll have done 2 days then 3 & then all the nasty nicotine will be gone from your body & it's all just mind over matter from there - just do it a day at a time & remember nobody ever died from a craving!! (even though it's hard  )

:D x

Thanks all so much for your support. It's feeling tougher this morning. It's day 2 and I have woken up feeling like I could actually eat a packet of cigarettes. I have also got a mighty headache.

Took my patch off before bed as never smoked through the night anyway. Have put another one on now so hopefully will kick in soon. I WILL not give in lol.

Off to do some cleaning to take my mind off it. I feel a long day ahead!!

Hey Lauren,

Welcome to the forum and well done for deciding to become a non smoker, as people have said it really will be the best decision you ever made.

I am currently on day 12 and literally couldn't have done it without the support on here (thanks guys), it's been tough, really tough at times, but already so worth it.

Good luck and I look forward to reading your posts/success.
