I'm on Day 5

I've tried to give up SO many times before, for various reasons but always failed before lunchtime on the first day! I'd tried every NRT under the sun lol

This time I combined medium strength patches with an inhalator and somehow something has clicked! The first day ticked by and I was almost amused, and slightly confused.

Then another day.... and another. My Father in law lit and smoked a cigarette right next to me, and would have given me one had I asked and somehow I didn't!

Now I'm coming to the end of day 5 and I've still not touched a single one! Not even a puff. I'm immensely proud of myself although a little concerned at weaning myself from the NRT. I have noticed though that I'm using the inhalator less all the time.

Rach hun, wlecome to the forum and waht can i say, you done 5 days now do another :-) you seem to have found your strenght in your formula, if it s working stick with it.... i tried like you zillions of times and NRT was not for me, nor was hyponothereoy ( 5 times in total ) zybans, lozangers, gum, patched fake fags, liquid stuff, even drinking but ends at 14 lol.... champix worked for me but i onlu=y did 8 weeks out the 12 week course and doing grand coming up to month 4.... it gets easy then harder then easy just go with it and enjoy until one day you totallyu forget you ever smoked them ar ethe days that makes it all so worth it..

keep it up chick

Rachel

Well done in your decision to quit. Like you i have tried quitting a million times before. Im almost 8 weeks in and using patches from my local Pharmacy and I too feel different this quit. It's just so different this time, can't explain it except to say that I think "this is the one for me" .

So, sounds like you're in the right frame of mind too. Good luck in your quit.

Well Done

Hi Rachel - well done you've done really well. I do believe it is mostly mind over matter - I stopped smoking on Tuesday so a day behind you. Like you I've had so many attempts to stop over the years but I've decided I can't keep playing russian roulette with my health......

3 things that help me (apart from reading the Allen Carr book attending course ages ago):

You've got to not want to smoke more than you want to.

Smoking doesn't enhance enjoyable situations.

Smoking doesn't make bad situations better

I got this from the forum and find them simple and easy to remember.

Look forward to reading your updates.

Well done Rach

Don't worry too much about coming off the NRT at this point. Just do as you're doing and keep off the fags, the NRT can wait until you are ready and I'm sure you will realise when the time is right for you to leave the NRT off also.

Good luck

Don't worry about coming off the NRT. I used patches and an inhalator. How I loved that inhalator, it really kept me going and when I had a glass of wine it was as good as a cig. I don't use it now. Still have load of refills. You'll come off everything when the time is right. Not smoking is the main thing.:D

Thanks Guys

I'm on Day 11 now and still chugging away on my inhalator, although less frequently lol. I also still have my patch on

I could have picked a less stressful time to quit I think but I'm going.

My mother in law is in her last few days, and life here is so tense but I hope it'll just strengthen my resolve :)

Well done Rach

I am sorry to hear the news your mother in law and hope you and your family get through an awful time with strength and love.

I tried to come off my NRT too quickly in the beginning so I am trying not to worry about coming off it in the future.

Once we have cracked the largest part of the quit, the psychological side, I am sure the NRT will be a doddle to quit. :)

Una, why don't you sell your refill cartridges, there would be loads of people that would buy them off you, me for one! :D

I went to Boots the other day to get refills and they only had 2 boxes left! My word ... biggest chemist in the country and they have no stock ... grrrrr :p

Stay strong Rach and I wish you the best of luck and send you some extra strength to get through what you are going through.

Take care

Greg
