Day 4 Failed

Hi Folks,

I just failed and smoked on day 4. I'm so angry with myself for giving in. I had a really stressful afternoon at work and on the school run I went a bought a pack and smoked one.

I have been feeling bad about failing since 3pm today so just had another one now. Guess what.... I feel even worse.

The wife and kids were so proud of how I was doing and now I have let them down (well they don't know I cheated but I do.)

I was doing great with patches and mints until today. So annoyed with myself.

mmm It is hard! You have to want to do this. Dont beat yourself up you have to do it because you want to and not because of what others think. I know it is important that the wife and kids are proud! but first and foremost it has to be what you want to do. Try again and this time might be the time. Never give up giving up!

Paul quitting cigarettes is not easy and most people here have had more than one attempt. Keep how proud of yourself you were in your mind and try again.

You haven't failed - you just struggled with something that has been habitual for so long.

When you are ready we'll all be here to cheer you on :)

Thanks Karri! I want and need to do this!!!

I want to do this for me as well as the family. I was loving having my smell and taste back and losing the crackle from my chest. I was enjoying all the parts from being a non-smoker.

The craving today was unbelievable and I should have stayed strong...

For me, I'm creating lack of ability to go buy cigs by myself. It's like putting an addict in charge of the register... alone. I mean, I don't want to be in a sitch where it's "just me" facing the cig addiction. I want a check and balance system -- also describe it like a "buddy system" when you are swimming. Where someone is there.

Here's what I did. I won't go anywhere without my guy. My guy detests smoking and wants me to quit. So, if I went somewhere by myself, I'd cave. I think I would til I get further along. So, I refuse to get in the car to go anywhere by myself. :)

I'm not sure if that idea helps you -- but I would make an effort not to go anywhere without your wife. Because she's going to make you stronger to say no.

Don't put an addict in charge of the cash register alone. lol Try not to allow yourself to be alone and "free to do what you want" and buy cigs. Try to stay with an anti-smoking partner to have their added power of external resistance added to your own resolve.

That's my advice and what works for me. Good luck!!

Hi paul, you haven't failed, you've just hit a hurdle on your way.....

just keep on trying and one day, it will stick..

wishing you all the luck in the world........ actually, this isnt about luck is it? this is about mindset. So, wishing you the right mindset...... ?!

You haven't failed, you've hit a hurdle and how you deal with that hurdle is the most important thing.

If you feel that your wife and children will be disappointed, don't tell them and continue with your quit from day 1 straight away.

Good luck.

Just thought I would post an update, since my little stumble on Day 4 I have now hit 7 Days again!

(2 cigs in 11 days ain't bad eh?) So without cheating it's 7 Days, if we ignore the 2 I had it's 11 Days :D

Well done! Its great that you got straight back to it! And now you know how you'd feel if you did cheat again hopefully you'd be less likely to do so again!

That is brilliant, glad you went straight back to your quit.

Hope the next week goes well for you.

Thanks folks!

I decided not to count my "cheat" and I'm now on day 25 (according to my Boots lady that hooks me up with patches and mints!)

It's getting that little bit easier now :)

Well done you. I think for you, you did the right thing not counting it, if you had counted it at the time I think you would have been back to smoking again and not counting it let you carry on with this quit and made so far.

So kudos to you mate.... Keep at it and well done, I'm just a few days ahead of you maybe day 30 or 31 for me...and I think you'll agree it is becoming very easy to see a smoke free future actual working for us now, even at this early stage...

Good luck.

well done, but call it 7, otherwise you can get a mindset that 1 or 2 dont count and then they get more and more frequent until youre a smoker again.
