Hi guys,

just thought I would check on with you guys and let you know my story..

On the 24 June I was diagnosed COPD.... Not surprising really given I have smoked for approx 36 years, 20/30 a day for the last say 20 years or so

To confirm the diagnosis my GP asked me to go for an X-ray, this scared me.. I couldn't cope with what they might find.. Made worse when the lady at X-ray informed me they needed to rule everything else out ( cancers etc)... The X-ray was the morning of 26th June it was awful, I couldn't breathe while waiting to be called, and left the X-ray dept twice out of sheer fear.. While in X-ray I had a severe panic attack".... Oh my was it awful...

Since that day I have never picked up a cigarette, had no cravings.. No nothing.. It's a really strange experience...

If ever you doubt your quit, just ask yourself would you be happy letting anyone look at your lungs... It's all it took for me

Sheeeeesh....i'm having panic attacks just reading this Chloe. Arghhhh.......... must've been terrible. 21 days though Well done you. I trust they did rule everything else out? Thank you for sharing. I promise...I will NEVER doubt my quit.

Yea my X-ray came back clear, but it was proberbly one of the scariest things I done in my life... Second only to Disneylands space mountain lol...

Thing is its weird...... I thought this cold turkey thing would be up there with one of the hardest things I ever done ( tried to quit twice before, patches then e-cig ) both terrible fails... Believed I would never be able to quit, A complete failure type of thing.. Then this happens... So instead of this being one of the hardest things I ever done, it's been promoted to one of the easiest...

Another thing that helped me massively was why quit website, a guy called Joel runs it... Simple request really "never take another puff". Well Joel I never will, even at this early stage I know I never will

Hi Chloe. That is a really powerful story and there but for the grace of god go I. We have all gambled with our health. The good news for you is your condition will not get any worse now that you have quit. I wish my sister had quit when she was diagnosed.

So sorry about your sister continuing to smoke after diagnosis.. Your quote is absolutely correct.. " we have all gambled with our lives"

For me it wasn't the diagnosis... It was the fact they were looking into my lungs... Like if anything was lurking in there i wouldn't know, but now they were looking they would tell me... kinda was scared of what was found, as i was never secure with smoking and knew it was damaging me

I was the same. I knew it was damaging me. Then I would worry about it and smoke more.:confused:

My sister has Emphysema and she is still smoking. I really wish she wouldn't. You have done the best thing in stopping and good luck to you. Keep posting on here and we will all keep supporting each other.

What stage is your sister at ? Im at severe, bring her on here.. She can be my COPD Quit buddy.. We will do this thing together..

She hasn't said what stage she is at. Although I suspect it is moderate. How did you get to sever without it being diagnosed earlier?

You are right about about the stories on here inspiring heart warming struggles and laughs all mixed together.

I have other medical conditions which I have been obsessing about, one of them is a pain condition so I wasnt really moving about a lot and I am on morphine too... I have asthma so the breathlessness etc I believed was just attacks.. For a couple of years I have been tired, I mean exhausted unable to walk up the kitchen so was diagnosed cfs.. Sept last year I was given a blood test and found to have severe anemia blood counts down in the 6 area, so put the sob down to that... Guess the pain and anemia became a priority and everything else took back seat.. I also had surgery in feb on my shoulder..

So shortness of breath was anemia, never walked far enough to realise how bad it was, the morphine masked it all and pain in my upper back was from surgery..

The gp ordered a spirometry test in April and my fev1 came back as 43 , which is moderate in some places, but severe with nice and gold

How strange, my sister has asthma and she is completely exhausted all the time she sleeps for England! She has low blood oxygen too. I suppose it is all connected. You sound like you have been through the mill and I hope things start to look up for you now.

What was the op on your shoulder for? It wasn't a frozen shoulder was it? I had one a few years ago Excruciatingly painful and I am not soft,believe me, but that was horrendous. The hospital said I could have a manipulation under anaesthtic but I declined. It just got better naturally.

Yea it was frozen shoulder, I have it bilateral so quite limiting.. Had capsular release in feb on the right side, but no better then I began :mad: range of movement is worse...

well done for doing the right thing. alot of people bury their head in the sound and would of been chain smoking.
