I am sure you will be fine. Although you made a mistake by starting again whilst on holiday before. It seems to me that you have learnt from that mistake which will make you even more vigilant this time around.
You have got a nice length of time behind you with this quit, so I would just carry on what you have been doing. Just take it one day at a time.
Maybe you should also tell your family your concerns they may give you that extra bit of support and encouragement while your away.
However I honestly feel you are one step ahead of "Mr Nicotine" on this one, due to your previous experience. So I'm sure you're not going to let him spoil your holiday second time around!
I am playing it cool so family don't know how nervous I am.
Great to read you've got hols coming up
The thing with holidays is that it is our well earned break from the grind of making a living and our daily existence at home. We can escape all of that and head off to some chosen idyll and R.E.L.A.X. deservedly.
In there is where the holiday crave lives. Whilst you should have your holiday and chillax you should be aware that Nic o'Demon can sneak in and you should expect that the shit will!! That's okay, you've been there before and can refuse that crave when it arises...because you have done so before and it's what you are used to doing now.
Possibly don't play things too cool and do look to your family for their support. You only really need to face the holiday crave once and beat it...the rest of the time is for chilling with. So stand up square shouldered, bikini and sunnies on, to take your life back from Nasty Nic's slavery
Yep - holidays can trip people up, but that's because it's an association/trigger that only comes along rarely. So you can be chugging along nicely in a quit and then the sunshine and sangria (or whatever!) will bring on a monumental crave that can come as quite a shock.
But remember, this IS just another trigger, no bigger or scarier than all the others, and it can be beaten as long as you recognise it for what it is and ride it out. I found on my first holiday, about seven months in to my quit, I spent the first day thinking 'nyaarrrgh, I want to smoke!' and gritting my teeth, and then the next day I woke up and it was fine, no problem at all. In fact, I remember the waft of full strength malboro from the Germans next door made me feel quite sick sometimes!
Have a FANTASTIC holiday. Lucky you. Where are you going?
Hi Maura I am in the same boat as you and I also quit the same time as you well Feb 13 th for me. I am going on holiday with my chain smoking son just the two of us until the Friday when my husband will join us. I am absolutely dreading it, I go on June 18 th, I know it's a few weeks away but I really need help, I was thinking of going to the GP and asking him for something as by then I will have come off the nrt I am down to 5mg patches now and using the inhalator when I have a glass of wine. Please let us know how you got on and I hope that you have a good smoke free time xx
I can understand why you are worried but it is 7 weeks away. Do not use those weeks to get youself worked up, worried and in a state that it threatens your quit before you even get away. You will be 7 weeks further into your quit and by then you will be a lot stronger and more confident around smokers. As the holiday gets close you can re-assess the situation. Dont forget you only have to walk into a chemist or supermarket and you can buy patches gum etc. As a one off they will not break the bank, but if you start smoking again it may
Good luck and look forward to your holiday ( smoke free)
HYes you are right I am just being negative and will have to be more positive in future, I was 11 weeks yesterday so reaching out for month3 now and to be honest the smell off a smoker makes me feel quite sick let's hope it stays that way good luck to you xx
just came back from hols with loads of smokers and I feel like I just about made it.
I used the electronic cigs and really wanted a real one, but I kept putting it off and I made it, my hubby has never smoked and when i got tempted he said what will you say to the people on your forum?
so you all helped me and i am really proud to say I never touched one.
