I decided on Monday that my quit date would be today and at the time of posting I have reached my first self-set landmark

12 hours without a ciggie!!!!

Only thing I am dreading is getting up tomorrow morning as that is the smoke I am going to miss any advice would be gratefully received!

Well done Looney on deciding to quit.

My morning cig was the one I enjoyed the most. Like Shojam I also stopped having a coffee first thing and have juice instead. I also brush my teeth as soon as I get out of bed. Are you using any NRT?

Hi Looney (can I call you that?),

It's not so bad once you have made up your mind to do it. Just skip on to the next thing you would do in the morning and you'll forget you missed that part.

Good luck with the new regime :)

Hello, good evening and welcome Looney!

Congrats on reaching 12 hours :)

As for your question above, simples! Don't get up! :D

You'll be fine, just take it 1 hour at a time. Each time you get a crave just promise yourself you will wait an hour. Keep doing this and before you know it you will have done a day, then a week, then a month.

I smoked for 31 years and I can truthfully and honestly say it really does get easier.

You could stay in bed? (just kidding)

It's a bit hard, but the urge for that first ciggie in the morning does go away after a few days.

I missed my morning cigarette for ages what worked for me was going outside ,walk around the block then just get on with the day. each morning i would acknowledge how much better my breathing was becoming ,no matter how small. After a few wks i was waking and thinking 'thank god i dont have to smoke today'... Now its 5 mths and i dont miss the morning smoke at all iv just realized.

The morning crave soon passes, its the rest of the day that gets me into trouble :eek: but it does get easier. My solution is to get up and have a great big breakfast, yum :D

Thanks everyone - as much as I want to stay in bed decided to get up and actually the craving wasn't as bad - I just altered my 'running order' that I do when I get up!
