210 cigarettes not smoked.

$58.17 saved.

Sometimes, it's been pretty easy, all things considered.

Sometimes, it's been downright (nearly) overwhelming, by comparison.

My quit is just a baby quit, so far. Kicking, crying, fussy, and completely dependent upon me to protect it.

Before I quit, the idea I could go over ten days without a cigarette - not even ONE cigarette - was something I couldn't wrap my brain around.

Now, it seems like the blink of an eye, a wisp of a moment, almost hard to recall (thank God I'm keeping a journal).

My quit is a baby, and it's got lungs! My quit can scream when it is awakened. It's up to me to comfort it, to hold it, to treat my quit with tenderness and love.

I've such a long ways to go before my quit is all grown up and mature and able to stand on it's own. I can't travel forward in time, and I can't make time move any more swiftly.

So I must accept each precious moment as it comes, and savor the sweet little victories, and acknowledge and accept that there will be struggles, and stay focused.

My quit is me, and I am my quit.

For some strange reason i really like you and yet i don't know you. I put it down to your posts i enjoy reading and look forward too. Maybe it's because you are from San Diego ha ha. Anyway...

Now maybe i'm being a bit harsh on you here or myself but why are you pampering to a quit ? It's not a baby or needs love but i get what you are trying to imply. :)

The simple truth of the matter is.... You fail a quit then you increase the risk of a heart attack, lung cancer, emphysema, strokes etc. It's trying to kill you. There's so many ways it can take you away from this planet Gee.

There's no love or night feeds in that.

I'm pampering the EFFORT to quit. I'm not pampering the smoking. My effort is still fragile, and I could fail at any time. That's why I'm treating my effort with kid gloves. Hope that makes sense.

If that works for you Gee then i'm all for it. Everyone handles their quit differently.

I simply tell myself it's going to kill me. There's no beating around the bush with it.

I simply don't want to fail. I do not like the idea that something has a hold over me.

I won't be one of the many statistics out there where people cannot quit or failed to quit countless times.

Every addiction is beatable and mine is smoking.

No love for my quit Gee and never will be. It wants to kill me early.

I agree Rogue. Worked out today how long I have got left to live if I continue to smoke, going by family history and it really put the frighteners on me. But if I quit now, hopefully I will be in time. The non-smoking side of my family has much greater longevity than the smoking side. So its a no brainer.

Perhaps we're saying the same thing in different words?

I don't think your quit wants to kill you early, I think smoking wants to kill you early. Your quit is that effort, on your part, to not smoke.

I embrace my quit; I loathe my (former) habit. I'm in love with the new me, I'm embarrassed and ashamed of the old me. My quit is part of the new me - I've QUIT smoking.

Anyway, it's probably semantics.

As long as we don't smoke, it's all good, right? :)

If i took my mothers side of the family i won't make retirement. They were all smokers from the old days when people believed smoking wasn't that bad.

Even my mother has had lumps removed from her breast and yet continues to puff away. I'm afraid i know deep down she will never give up now and that smoking will take her away.

Yep i can see where you are coming from. Obviously my quit won't kill me but smoking will.. I don't really embrace my quit as such but i'm glad i've made an early decision to quit.

We both need to fight this together and i'm with you all the way.

One thing i respect about America is that every morning at school you lot salute your flag and show patriotism. Nothing in the UK which is a big shame.

Aww Rogue,

Don't lose hope with your Mum. When she sees how well you are doing she might think about her own smoking. I think the best thing we can do for other smokers is to lead by example. I told some of my smoking neighbours I was quit, and its amazing how they all want to know how I'm doing it. Every smoker wants to quit deep down, so by quitting ourselves, maybe we can give hope to other people?? Or am I just being idealistic?? I don't know, but the reality of smoking is starting to punch me in the face right now. Wish I never started. So when the weirdo crave waves come along I just surf them cos I'm not going back into that trap. It does actually feel like freedom even only after a week, good feeling too.

Sorry to ramble, but been thinking a lot today xx

I know what you mean DGee .. I am impatient to have this all behind me and to be up there in the penthouse too .. it will happen but we need to get through the teething and growing stages before being able to stand strong at those dizzy heights :)

I completely get this - I saw my quit like a child to be protected too. For me, it came about from reading other people on this forum talking about battling the NicoDemon. Protecting your quit is really the other side of that coin, I think. It worked for me, anyway, and my quit is looking all grown up now. ;)

But yes, ultimately, this is just imagery. I quit because it was killing me. No doubt about it.

So I say you are all right! :p
