Feeling unexpectedly awful!

Hi Everyone,

This is my 3rd or 4th attempt to quit and I am doing the best I have ever done. I am currently on day 31 (using nicotine lozenges 1mg) and have not had a single puff. For the first 3 weeks I felt pretty good. I had more energy, was more productive and generally felt good about myself. I started getting back into exercising and am going swimming regularly now. Now I feel dreadful...much worse than when I did smoke.

I have horrible skin, it's dry and flaky and I have a lot of spots coming up daily on my face (unusual for me, I am 36). My stomach is regularly a little upset, I am suffering from unusually bad gas :o, I have aches and pains and an on-off cold that seems to come on every time I lie down in bed causing me to snore like a bull all night because of my blocked nose (my partner doesn't like this, :)).

I guess my question is..is this normal? Will it pass? I really hope so because it's getting me down a little now.

Thanks for reading,

Loz x

Trouble in trap one

Hi, your post made me laugh, I feel for you because I've had the on off cold although the snoring like a horse for me has subsided and been much better since I've stopped smoking (day 20) my problem is the trouser coughing not good, in fact bad enough to stun a small pony. Also dare I say it very difficult no2's nearly phoned for a vet this morning:p

I'm not down about it as I think your body needs to adjust fully to not coping with the slow poisoning, maybe the whole system needs time to find its new balance. Chin up keep going. Lots of water to flush the system I've read on here worth a stab ehh :)

Thanks Jonboy, your post made me laugh more, hehe.

Yeah, I guess it is to be expected. My body is probably fighting back after years of abuse. best let it get it out of it's system :) It's the least I can do! I probably don't drink nearly enough water so will endeavour to remedy that.

Thanks again...I hope you manage to stay away from the vets, I have seen where they put their hands (and their arms come to mention it) x

Your body is just adjusting itself and these effects will pass in time

Everyone is different but flushing your system with drinking water will help

If your suffering with a bunged up nose try getting a nasel spray for alergies or get some olbas oil and sprinkle some on a tissue to inhale might help

You could get your OH some ear.plugs so the snoring wont be so loud or try having another pillow to boost you up abit more

Badish day

Have felt minging all day, really could have cracked not felt like this since I quit, feel ok this evening however and moving into week four and a whole new room has kept me going, in fairness could have eaten my own leg this morning or set fire to it one or the other and either would have done. Have had a dull headache all day, again not enough water not enough time! Should make time but not always possible. Still Friday tomorrow and heading for the full month.

21 days , -315 cigs, -2835 puffs £110.25 in the back bin, where's the aspirin and the senakot

I will survive

know how you feel believe me!!

like yourself I think I suffered every sensation known man. I'm also a recovering alcoholic, now about 21years and 8 months sober . Thought getting off the drink was hard but this smoking addiction was something else believe me. However here I am 42 days nicotine free which I thought was an impossibility. Really enjoyed a visit to the dental hygienist today who said she woud soon have my teeth back to some semblence of white and to stick with it.

So after 42 days I'm actually beginning to feel almost human Keep the faith

feeling crap

Do you remember your first fag I certainly do, it wasn't particularly plesant either. I remember it vividly more so than my first drink. Was on board a survey ship working of the East coast of Africa, just came out of the galley after a beautiful Sunday lunch. Spewd the lot over the side and it was flat calm!! Did it put me off no; I perceivered why; not got a clue.

Be patient, it won't take so long. I quitted last year and now feel comfortable - even if there are smokers in the same room.

No ones alone!

Got some chuckles here. Thought I was alone. On day 19, still plugging along. Good days are good! Bad days are horrible! I think I've had the flu be simpler than this on my bad days. So many aches and pains that come and go and a couple of days where my body just plain wouldn't go. Attitude is good though, I know all is still fragile time, but at the moment I do NOT want to experience another trip down detox lane ..... Golly gee!
