I am on my 3rd day and i have been using the 15mg inhalator, but i am getting to the point where it is almost unusable due to the amount it is making me cough.
I feel worse on the inhalator than i ever did on my ciggys!
Anyone have any suggestions for dealing with the effects of the inhalator?
This is the first time i have properly tried to stop smoking and for me getting to the 3rd day is miraculous and i really don't want my efforts to go down the pan!
thanks in advance

Had a wee look around the web and it seems that coughing is a side effect of using the inhalator affecting approx 1 in 10 folk. The advice for this was to see your doctor.
It struck me that there are a huge amount of concerns regarding the inhalator listed in all the websites I looked at. Alarmingly there was a list if experienced one should immediately stop using and consult with doctor. These are as follows:
[*]cold sweat
[*] confusion
[*] convulsions (seizures)
[*] disturbed hearing and vision
[*] drooling
[*] extreme exhaustion
[*] pale skin
[*] fast heartbeat
[*] symptoms of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the mouth or throat, chest tightness, or shortness of breath
[*] tremors
It's great that you've got to more than 3 days and just because you aren't as content with the inhalator doesn't mean to say that you should give up on your quit. Possibly try some other methods such as Cold Turkey, other NRT - patches, mister (that's a mist giving device not a man!), minis - champix, lozenges, etc.
Alternatively you could have a read of Allan Carr's EasyWay to Quit. Some current members are reporting good experiences. There's also a link to a pdf someone posted recently.
I tried a lot of nrts at the start to see what I wanted. Inhalator, made me cough too so that one time I tried it was the only time. Then the quickmist well it was awful burn in the mouth and gave me violent hiccups. The gum I found was helpful the first couple of days but then I havnt had any for over a week. The patches I've been on for 2 weeks and they are brill. Put one on after morning shower and forget about It til bedtime. Only thing is they start you off on step one which is 25mg and way more than I was getting from fags. Before I stopped I noted there was about 0.8mg in one cig. I was on about 15 a day!! So 25mg is loads more.
I'd reccommend reading easyway too, he doesn't agree with nrt but a few people on here say they've used easy way and nrt so I'm one of them!! The book just puts things into perspective and tells you the truth about the brainwashing we've had.
Not sure about Allan Carr as that would mean going cold turkey with no nicotine at all... don't like the sound of that, although i heard great things about his book.
As it turns out i managed to get through to today using some gum and lozenges i had knocking about the house.... I went back to the chemist and got some 25mg 16 hour patches, and so far so good!
Will keep the inhalator for first thing in the morning just in case Hoping if i use it only very occasionally it will not get me coughing again!
I read it a couple of days into my quit and found it really helped. I am still using patches. The allen carr book just changed the way I thought of smoking. Rather than seeing it as something I enjoy like I did, I see it as something I didn't enjoy and understand the chain and the trap of it. Its all about understanding the addiction and seeing smoking as just what it is, an addiction.
I'd still give it a read, you've got nothing to lose
Oh and if you were using the inhalator to provide a hand to mouth action, and for the cravings to subside, you can get a little fake cig from savers, and can get it in tesco too. It contains no nicotine replacement but the taste of it is a bit like a fag just more pleasent! So that won't make you cough and splutter as it contains nothing to make u lol
Its 2.99 and the refills are 99p, my cousin bought one as she's on champix and not allowed nicotine products

you dont have to go cold turkey to read allen carr i read it a few weeks into my quit whilst still using patches and inhalator i feel it contributed massively to my quit and made me understand so much please dont dismiss it i was desparate to try anything to keep me quit and anything that would help me and here i am over a year down the line

Thanks for that! I know the ones your talking about, so i popped into the savers shop near me and they had none... went to the next closest one to me and what a disaster that turned out to be!
I was almost at the second savers over in Fulham and my bike went into a massive pot hole! Almost came of the bike and got run over... and to make things worse the bloody pot hole burst my rear bike inner tube! so i had to get to a bike shop to buy a new inner tube, then fit it just so i could get back home!
After all that i still never got me one of them ciggy, things due to the shop being closed by the time i fixed my bike!
GRRR!! was sooo annoyed! twice now i have almost lost the plot since i have quit!

Hard bloody work eh!
Lol just one of those days eh?! They do sell them in tescos I said, do you not have one of them close??
Hi Leeds fan , it sounds like your overusing like i was. it caused a cough a weird shallow one and a tight chest. i eventually used it without the nicotine, i just chewed on it, took it every where , we became inseperable but not addicted anymore just married. you only need a couple of puffs onit every 10 mins or so, dont inhale just let the nicotine sink to just below the tongue where it is absorbed into the blood stream ,its a definite buzz and makes you realize the potency o nicotine . i eventually preffered it to smoking, it felt cleaner. eventually i gave up nicotine completely as its actually quit boring . i get better stimulations now that iv quit and my nerves are healing and everything else is functioning better. natural highs are now higher than ever. and lows dont drag on for ever. all the best with your quit.
I really rate the inalator - it's been the only thing that's really worked for me in the zillion quits I've attempted - that makes no sense does it, but I hope you know what I mean!! If you suck it too hard (oo-er :p) it does feel a bit raw I guess, but I spend most of my time clutching it and occasionally having a suck!
