Hi everyone, sorry for not being around for a while. After the wheel fell off the wagon the last time I figured I needed to forget about quitting for a while rather than keep trying to save the last attempt. In any event here I am at day 3 with a new method and a positive attitude.

My attempts so far: 2 times chantix, 1 time cold turkey and this time Nicoderm CQ. So far the nicoderm has been the easiest for me but I kind of feel like I'm cheating a little since I still get nicotine through the patch but I guess its still better than smoking.

I wish everyone much success in beating this addiction and look forward to reconnecting with some of my old friends here as well as establish some new friendships

Thank you for the welcome everyone, I'm happy to see familiar faces and I am sorry for being a “Senior Member” posting in a day 3 forum. I was trying to figure out my last attempt at this and as near as I can figure it’s been a year

Looking back at my previous failed attempts I realize that every time I started smoking again was because of stress brought on by others so my promise to myself this time is:

I will no longer smoke as a way of dealing with stress caused by other people

Sounds easy right?

I will now deal with the issues causing the stress the in the same manner as it is presented. For example - If someone raises their voice and starts yelling – they can expect the same in return. If a person presents a problem peacefully and professionally I will return the same courtesy to them.

Stress has lead me back to smoking every time. This time I know my main down fall and will handle it differently.

Thank You again for the support

Think you have to understand the chain that smoking brings too. It doesn't help deal with stress, the stress you feel is the effects of the last cig leaving your system. Have you ever read allen carrs book? I know I seem like I keep preaching on about it, but instead of finding my quit hard, I'm finding it easy and pretty excited about life as a non smoker to be honest.

If you've never read it, give it a go. You never know until you try!

Staying put!! (I hope anyway) -lol. Thanks for the warm welcome and I will try my best not to waste anyone’s time like my previous attempts. I feel bad for all the time my friends here spent trying to keep me on track only to let them down. That is why I needed to get through the first few days without letting you all know I had quit again. This time I am better prepared and trying a new method which seems to be working better for me. I'm on day 4 now so I think it will get a little easier as I get further along.

Thank you all again and good luck in your own quits

I love the allen carr method it really puts things into perspective doesn't it? Unfortunately I started it when I'd already stopped (I didn't know it was an actual method, until I began reading) but even so it still makes you understand the addiction and removes all that nasty brainwashing about how we enjoy smoking and it relaxes us etc, were only stressed in the first place from the effects of the last fag we smoked!!

I actually am not finding my quit terrible at all after that book. So makes me feel a little like a fraud or guilty when I read about people struggling on and battling the cravings. I know now that the cravings are all in the mind.
