To All New Year Quitters

Hi

Exactly 1 year ago today I was in your position. It has been the hardest thing I have ever done but now it's so worthwhile.

I really struggled in the beginning. I went Cold Turkey and I had every side effect possible (couldn't sleep, brain fog, depresssion, constant pain in my back, headaches) You name it I had it. So many times I thought of caving in a buying just one packet but the thing that kept me going is thinking about how disappointed I would feel if I smoked and I knew because it had been so hard in the beginning for me if I smoked I wouldn't bother trying to stop again. I look back and laugh now because at times I thought it was end of the world and my life was over. I couldn't imagine never having a cigarette again and felt so low. But now i'm a year on and feel great and don't worry about putting on weight. I put on 2 stone but i've managed to get 1 1/2 off so just 7lbs to go!! Eating crap was one of the things that got me through.

I smoked 20 - 30 cigarettes a day for 20 years. So if I can do it so can you. Make sure you keep to this forum because there is so much support on here for you. Good Luck to you xxxxxxxxx

It does get easier. Just take one day at a time. Your still quite early in your quit and I found between months 2-3 really hard. In the first couple of weeks you are all geared up and ready not to smoke but as time went on I found it harder because thats when all these side effects that I wasn't expecting appeared. I though I had cracked it after the first month and then it hit me. I felt like I was grieving and the depression set in. I had days where I was so low i didn't want to so******e I just wanted to be on my own.But I used to log on here and there was always someone who was feeling the same and it wasn't long before I snapped out of it. I tried 3 times before to quit and each time I failed because I thought I could have a drink and smoke a couple and each time I was straight back to 20 - 30 a day. This time i've drummed it into my head not one puff!!!! It will get easier for you and the feeling when you hit the big milestones is amazing. If you have a bad day and fancy a chat just message me. I normally log on most days.

Just keep battling on, one day at a time. Keep going. Don't let yourself down by caving in. Post here, hang tough, because it DOES get better.

And lou... congrats again on your 1 year anniversary!
