well it was new years eve and i was drunk. so what did i do yes you guessed it i smoked 2 roll ups. not sure whether to put this down to a blip or start again . i don't really see the point in going back to day one so i am likely to just continue and put it down to experience . good job i did not buy any . i am back on the electronic cigarette . have not had any cravings for the real thing today . what do you think i should do. back to the start or plow on?

i would carry on if you are confident its a blip day one again is to disheartening if it was just a new year slip up. the demon drink has a lot to answer for with us quitters a tough trigger to break be careful in the future stay strong and call it a blip

Aww sorry to hear that you slipped up Pfaber. I would say try not to worry about it and put it behind you :)

I agree - a blip it is. I'd think of it as a lesson learned the hard way - as I'm sure you feel rubbish about it. Just get back on that wagon and resolve to never ever have another.

Not you too,

Shit.... tis very unsettling when the strong ones trip. Yep, you are one of those.

You better get back on your quit immediatly and continue with those daily posts OR the world will certainly fall apart. :)

pfaber....argh! Sorry to hear you had a couple of rollups...what a bitch. Just treat it as a blip. If you'd chuffed through a packet I'd say you need to be back at Day 1 buster. But seeiing as it was just a couple and your resolve is still being an ex-smoker/non-smoker and not an enslaved addict. Then well carry on with the quit. I know there are some puritans about starting Day 1 out there but drink seriously weakens your thought processes and will....look if I was sober I wouldn't want to find myself waking up on a roundabout I'd think I was going mad...but when the demon drink has it's way you could do anything....good luck with your quit pfaber and keep posting.

Happy new year pfaber... sorry you slipped. And I agree with the others BUT you have to be seriously strict about it now because it's so easy to slip right back to the old habits. Start 2012 with real resolve and you'll be fine, just stay strong!

blip

Hi pfaber,

I also have had the blips, in fact three times in a short period, all part of the learning process I reckon, all it serves to do is make something quite difficlt even harder, however, I have been out a few times since my blips (including New Years eve) and brezed through. I think its up to you if you go back to day 1, its how you feel, I have worked too hard on the positives to be going any where near Day 1 again, and I will suceed reagrdless of having a knack of sabotaging my own efforts.

Today is the tomorrow that we worried about yesterday.

Keep strong, we will succeed

Sorry to hear you failed Pfaber but in my opinion if we smoke we are back to day one, that's how I would see it if I smoked.

Other than that dust yourself off at start again, you know it makes sense.

you could always ring the nhs free smokingline and see what they suggest to make sure u dont pick up the habit again perhaps?

nsd_user663_20978 profile image
nsd_user663_20978

i think it depends on wether you will learn from the blip and use it to strengthen a quit

or

use it as excuse to have further blips and feel its ok

at the end of the day only the person who blipped knows the answer to that one

It just send out the wrong message - I have not smoked for 116 days, so the message I am getting is that I can smoke 2 cigarettes and tell eveyone on the forum but yet I am still continuing my quit of 116 days.

Surely if I smoked even half a cigarrete I have failed my quit and I should be back to day 1??? I would be seriously pissed with myself and feel that I would be letting down my fellow quitters if this was the case.

Hi well done for realising you have had a little slip up and too use it as a lesson, I would not say go back to day one so long as you dont smoke again, a 99 day quit is too good to lose so onwards and upwards is the way to go.

If you can get past this you will make the Penthouse with ease.

Have a Happy Healthy smoke free 2012

So Jamangie, let me get this right. You are congratulating pfaber for realising that he/she has smoked ?? and because he/she has quit for 99 days then it doesnt count as having to start again ?

I couldn't agree more, it is each individual's quit, so where they want to be on the forum is up to them.

Where did I say congratulations? I said well done for realising you have made a mistake and for having the courage to come on and ask for advice, I don’t think anyone has the right to decide whether or not someone goes back to day one or not, we can only give our opinion and let the quitter decide for their selves, It seems that some people are over reacting to a couple of post regarding slips/blips and seem to think that if they made a choice at some point to go back to day one then others should too, each individual on this forum has a choice you may choose to go back pfaber11 can choose not to, her choice.

I was lucky to have made 2 years smoke free without a blip/slip but if at some point I had smoked one cig I would not have gone back to day one, day one for me was a day without a cig after 40+ years of smoking.

Each to their own, there are smokers on here who go back too day one every week, that to me is there choice also, but if you continue smoking then you are not quitting you are just having a short break from smoking.

See its all down to the individual quitters take on what’s right and what’s wrong, there are no rules on the forum dictating how you should go about getting to that point of being a none smoker, also there are no forum police telling us how to do it, it’s all about individual choice, well that is how I see it.

Sweet, well i want to be in the penthouse so that's where I will put myself.

So what is the point of having different milestones on this forum ? Surely it is to give people a sense of achievement, something to be proud of, so when someone comes on and admits they have smoked but they consider themselves to be able stay in a specific room it completely undermines other peoples milestones and achievements.

It gives the wrong message to people who are starting out in the earlier days/week of their quit, if I looked into the penthouse room and someone admitted they smoked 10 fags I would be pretty down heartened that someone 12 months plus into their quit still felt like smoking.

Words from a blipper

Well - I blipped back in December (just the one cigarette) but I refuse to take myself back to Day 1.

Think about it - you were not addicted after the first cigarette you ever smoked. It took a few cigarettes to become addicted. And - there are loads of people out there who tried one cigarette, didn't like it so didn't do it anymore - do they call themselves 'ex-smokers' - I doubt it! ONE cigarette - or even 2 or 3 - does NOT make a smoker.

This is all so ridiculous really - the main aim is to stop smoking, which I have done...I don't consider that I started smoking again when I had ONE cigarette.

If I was running a marathon - and tripped and fell - I wouldn't make myself go back the start just because I stopped running for a couple of minutes - I would just get up and carry on....this is exactly the same thing.
