NRT (niquitin minis) free to a good home

Tried to cut back on pills, as recommended in the advice leaflet, but.....got a lot of cravings/ smoking thoughts or whatever and I think I reacted to those cravings by taking more pills. Possibly, I then overdosed on nicotine and became stressed, tense, bad tempered, bad dreams etc etc. I suddenly wasn't in control of my quit (if that makes sense).

So I decided to stop the pills. There were 2/3 days that I would how describe as being like a "little brother quit". Those days have now passed and normality has been restored!!!!!

Still have some sh**y phases but basically all is well with the world.

Posting this for the record orrrrr for others to compare their journey too.......:):)

BEST WISHES TO ALL...........................:):)

Sounds like you quit around the same time as me. Well done for getting so far; I know myself it isn't easy. I've taken Champix this time as NRT has never worked for me - just wanted to smoke the whole time  I kind of feel that NRT is sort of torturing yourself - you have a little bit of nicotine - enough to keep you hooked but not enough to feel comfortable. That said, I know its worked for a lot of people and Champix has been no walk in the park either. A lot is to do with you in the end. Glad you overcame your wobble. Stay strong :)

Really well done Grumpie. You have clearly regained control of your quit now. And it's a good feeling not to be using anything, isn't it? :)

Hi grumpie,

I know what you mean cos I have had bad experiences with the dreaded NRT. I tried quitting with an e-cig and it was a disaster.

Possibly, I then overdosed on nicotine and became stressed, tense, bad tempered, bad dreams etc etc. I suddenly wasn't in control of my quit (if that makes sense).

That is what happened to me only worse, I ended up in hospital with chest pains LOL, but fortunately it was related to my gullet not heart phew:rolleyes: Gave up the quit though. Tried again with patches, but then had a puff on e-cig and got a blinding headache, and yet STILL wanted the real thing, so went for 10 fags, how crazy is that?? I think NRT can be dangerous as people do tend to smoke on it, and also it prolongs the agony of nicotine withdrawal. I would not actually call it Nicotine Replacement Therapy, I would call it Nicotine Continuation Therapy, which is not good. After all, nobody would treat an alcohol addiction with vodka would they?? But in saying this, I do not want to put anyone off who is using NRT successfully, it just didn't work for me and never would. My quit has come about through using Champix, which I read about on this forum. The good thing about it is that the nicotine was out of my system within 48 - 72 hours, so I was no longer addicted to it. Those 72 hours were hell on earth, but I did it. My next goal was to get to two weeks and I did that too. Had some major craves in there but got through them, kinda wondered where the Champix effect was though?? But guess it did something. Not sure. But now my prob is how the hell do I get off the Champix?? Is it me that did this quit or is it a drug?? Think I deserve some kudos though, cos I could have binned the Champix and smoked if I wanted to. And typing this now, the thought of smoking is repulsive yuk yuk. So maybe there is some of 'me' in this quit. Hope so. And with the help of my trusty doc I will get the Champix situation sorted and be okay;) Meanwhile, I so admire the Cold Turkey Quitters, you are the BIG GUNS LOL:D So wish I had been brave enough to do that, fair play to you guys;)

TC,

Zoe xx

Don't be daft Zoemac...of course it's you pulling of this quit. You still have to want to quit to actually quit. If it wasn't for the fact my husband and I are trying for another baby and I've suffered with depression on and off since my teens then I'd have used Champix too. However anyone quits it's a huge achievement, big guns indeed!!!!

P.S. how do you quote, as you can see I can't do it LOL!

Well done Grumpie :D

Ive upped my consumption of the mini lozenges as I found the more I cut them down the more I ate. Ive taken into consideration that Im only entering week 5 and have already cut out the patches.

I think I will try the cutting them down thing a bit later on and if it doesnt work then I'll follow your lead.

Well done you!!!

Thank you all for your comments. Its always nice to receive replies to what is basically a rant. Hopefully my experience can help someone else.

Zoe.... don't be so hard on yourself.....the only thing that has stopped you smoking is your own strength of character and.... stop trying to cross bridges until you come to them. Be confident that when your time arrives to come of champix you will cope. If you can stop smoking, stopping champix will be a walk in the park.

Lillie.... be patient your time will come....your doing well.

Everyone else....thank you AND stay strong..:):)
