Hi Aniket,

Keep going it will pass. Take some deep breaths and say to yourself 'this is not going to beat me'.

I have found drinking water has helped. I am on Day 4 now and luckily I am feeling fine, my cravings are not strong and even though I can see the smokers from my office window I have no desire to join them. You will get there too.

Wishing you loads of luck and support. You are doing great.

Mornin'

Water, vegetable sticks...anyting to drink or nibble on when times get tough...your mind will soon be easily diverted.

I've replaced cigarette walks (my office backs on to the River Thames) with fruit walks. I still go with the smokers when they're having a fag break, just I munch on some fruit.

I also have a big box of unsalted nuts which I can nibble on.

Hi Aniket,

Just be careful of carrot sticks.

My colleague and I had a good laugh about my epitaph as I nearly choked on a carrot stick. Once I had got my breath back I told her that she could have put:-

'She managed to dump the cigarettes but didn't know the carrots would be the end of her' :D

Hi Aniket!

Yes, day 1, 2 and 3 are really, really tough, most attempts at quitting smokes fail during one of those 3 days.

But don't let it beat you: Remember the uncomfort and pain you are feeling is just your body healing! It's actually a good thing!

Keep reinforcing yourself - you want to quit, and you are not giving up on that just because you feel bad!

The worst of the craves only last around 3-5 minutes, try timing them you will see. Fresh air and deep breaths help. Chewing on gum, sucking on hard candy, drinking water takes the edge off as well. And I found going for short runs helped me a LOT.

When you finish day 3 you'll see how things get much easier.

back into day 2

Hello once again I am in day 2.....this time day 1 was very easy...i have a question..does eating fruits reduces cravings..i had 3 guavas yesterday at regular intervals (just by chance) and I didnt feel any cravings for puff....

I don't think there's anything medical that would suggest fruit will prevent cravings from a chemical perspective. However, I feel it helps on a mental level. I started eating better when I quit and that overtook the smoking as a desire....I therefore concentrate on the food and not smoking.

I'm guessing there's something called replacement therapy (or similar) and that's what I've experienced.
