Hi all,

Almost at the end of my first no smoking day. Tried many NRT and nothing helped so going cold turkey this time. Feel like ripping my own skin off at the mo but so determined to stick it out as OH and I want another baby, and I'm sick of feeling tired and chesty, and being skint! :)

Thanks Gaynor, been reading a few posts which made me feel better as it sounds like people are finding it easier after a few days. Felt really bad just now so I went and wrote a list of all my quitting reasons, and by the time I'd done, the craving had passed. At midnight I'll be on 24 hours! Woohoo!

OH just running me a nice hot bath to relax...scrubbed my kitchen to within an inch of it's life today :)

Well done FK on your decision to quit. As Gaynor says get reading and educate yourself, you'll be surprised how ignorant we all really are about smoking. Second day tomorrow and I hope the bath went down well. David

Thanks David.

Not feeling too good at mo, really really wanna smoke, but OH is being great and making sure I don't. Bath helped loads, more relaxed but got a bad head and feeling sick.

On a positive note, as a 20 a day smoker, I've saved a fiver already :)

And how clean will your house be after a week.

Well done for taking the plunge. That is actually the hardest bit- remember that smokers get cravings, not non smokers, and smokers cant satisfy all of them immediately and eventually smoking doesnt satisfy it , it really is a vicious cycle. anyway I know what I mean- Welcome

Welcome and Well Done

Good Morning Sal & Well Done on reaching day 2.

It will get easier, honestly. I got myself a hobby to help me in the first few weeks. I cant knit anything but scarves but i did that for the first 4-5 weeks and now its calmed down. I do read also now and i am taking a high dose vitamin supplement too esp Vit C. Make sure you drink lots esp fruit juice because your body will need extra sugar for the first week or so, hence some people eat lots of sweets but if you drink fruit juice the rush is quicker to the system a bit like a diabetic when they have a hypo.

Anyhow good luck and stay strong, keep reading and posting. :)

Good Luck

Hi Sal,

I'm on my third day of non-smoking after 15 years and previous failed attempts. Just wanted to wish you luck tell you that you (well we) can do it this time!

I've tried cold turkey and gum before and didn't have the willpower to stop. Only a smoker can understand how bad those cravings are. This time I've tried 21mg patches and am amazed that I have felt no cravings at all and as of now I have no intention of ever smoking again. It all seems a bit too easy to be honest, but don't want to be too cocky just yet as it is early days still.

We want to try for a baby this year so I have something to motivate me - just like you. You may have tried these already, but a couple of tips I can offer which may help. Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking book I found pretty helpful to put you in the right frame of mind. Also, if the cravings persist, I'm on NiQuitin Clear patches and for me at least they are working brilliantly (some odd side effects, but nothing I can't handle). Boots were selling them half price this week so if your cravings get too much, why not pop down to the shops and get yourself some. If nothing else it will give you something positive to do to take your mind off things. p.s. make sure you head straight to the chemist and avoid all the ciggie sellers though as if you're like me you will find your legs taking themselves to the fag counter!

Let us know how you are getting on and Good Luck. I'm sure you can do it.

Thanks guys!

Just had a mini meltdown on the phone to OH, but otherwise feeling reasonably okay.

I have an E-cig, but I'm only using it if i feel really bad. I'd rather get the nicotine all out of my system if poss. I can't use patches, as I'm allergic to the adhesive, and they actually burn my skin! Told my dad this, and he said, "Well, you're not meant to light them!" lol

I've been getting my weights out and training for a bit with some loud music on if the cravings are bad. That should balance out the extra eating too! :) I'm soooo hungry at the mo!
