Hi - pls can I ask no negativity !

Well smoked my last smoke a few minutes before midnight last night. I've been trying to quit since I found out I was pregnant in september. I did cut down but then found myself smoking more when I was alone - hated how it looked to others and the nasty comments. Always thought if I got pregnant I would quit straight away - but to be honest it was harder then ever. With my first I only quit completly the last 6 weeks of the pregnancy and started again the day after I'd had him.

I'm now 20 weeks pregnant and this is the longest Ive been without a smoke in over 8 years (21 hours!!!). I'm using both the patches ( only when awake and 3 inhalator cartridges each day.

The cravings have not been that bad and the loving support of my hubby has been fantastic but I'm very emmotional. I'm sitting in tears every hour :-(

I'm hoping this time I can quit for good - even after I've had my baby! Good luck to everyone else who is trying x

Well done on taking steps to becoming smoke free, You are doing this for all the right reasons.

There are a lot of people on here to give support when you need it so dont think you have to go through this on your own.

Good luck to you and hope to see you posting this time next week for your first week smoke free.

You can do it girl

Hi bpoollass,

And well done for making the decission to quit smoking for your own health and baby's.

I have never been pregnant but if you think of how wonderful the human body is and what it can do, why are we so intent on damaging it? Your body is at this moment creating a beutiful human being who will give you many happy years and this child needs it's Mum and you need to be around for this child so we are all here to support you and if it is the one positive thing that you do in your life , don't give in to this nicotine monster. When things get tough and you want to screem at someone this is the place to do it. I am looking forward to your posts as your child grows and and you say goodbye to the nicotine monster. One last thing is that every smoker finds thier own way of smoking i.e. patches, gum, champix, and I have tried them all over 35 years of smoking and I was surprised that I managed to stop by going cold turkey?? makes you think. So all the best and when you next post give us an easer name than bpoollass LOL.

Levs1000 Days Smoke Free

Hi and welcome to the site.

If it makes you feel anyless bad (which I know is probaly not possible) I smoked though all three of my PG's and I know that there is one or two more ladies on here that did to. It's not easy to stop smoking at any time pregnant or not so firstly stop beating yourself up over it, you won't help yourself doing that.

Secondly, well done on being smoke free for 21 hours. All you can do is take it one minute, one hour, one day at a time.

You can do it. Just do what you can to distract yourself from any cravings. I played on the x-box when I had mine. I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mum so was able to do that, not sure what bosses would say if you set your xbox up in the office lol. Just do whatever you can to take your mind off it.

Take it from everyone on here that knows. A craving will go whether you smoke or not. Only difference, if you smoke you are guarenteed to get another one every hour or so for the rest of your smoking life. If you don't smoke it will get longer and longer between cravings to the point you will never have any more.

Stay strong.

Sian

Hi bpoollass,

Welcome to the site :D

No negativity from me. When I was first pregnant in 1982 it was a bit frowned on (smoking I mean) but not like it is now. I tried to stop & did for a while. In 1983 I was preganant again  and again gave up for a while. It was hard but the pressure not to was not as bad then as I have said. It is so hard when you are made to feel guitly about it I know but do the best you can.

We will all be here for you ok?

Well done, for taking that 1st big step.. I see we have two pregnant ladies in the first week. Why dont you befriend each other- its always helpful to have someone in the same situation to talk to.Her name is nofagsVicki.

I smoked during pregnancy and I felt guilty and miserable, and I dont think that helps any one. I am sure that you will always do your best for your babe.
