Starting Week 3…It’s a miracle!

Hi Everyone

Today is day 15 for me so thought I would say hi! My last cigarette was on 30th November and I have been reading the forum everyday since I stopped but didn’t want to post too early in case it all went wrong!

I have been smoking since I was thirteen and over the past year have been easily smoking around 20 a day if not more. I decided enough was enough and made the decision overnight to quit. Phoned the doctor, made an appointment to see the nurse and here I am 15 days later without having one cigarette. It is nothing short of a miracle!

I have quit a couple of times in the past, once with hypnotherapy but started smoking again after six weeks and once using patches but started again after nine months. This time I am using patches and lozenges which have been excellent for me so far. I’m not going to pretend it has been easy. I had one horrendous morning when my hair straighteners packed up and I threw a huge fit. Pathetic I know! How I didn’t buy cigarettes that morning is a wonder to me but somehow I managed it!

This time I am telling myself that I haven’t quit but simply just not smoking each day and it seems to be working well.

I have found reading other members posts really inspiring and this forum always stops me thinking of smoking at work during break times so I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone!

Congrats! I remember throwing a fit or two in the beginning... sometimes over the silliest things!

But all I can remember is the sense of accomplishment afterwards when you know you could have bought a pack but you made the choice to not smoke.

Well done for your previous quits, think about what went wrong there and before you know it you'll be in the penthouse!

Lovely to see a newcomer

Thanks for the welcome and support! I don't want to tempt fate but it does seem to be getting easier already. When I quit previously every day seemed to get harder and harder. I think the difference is that this time I really do want to quit. Even after only a couple of weeks my asthma is almost non-existent which is great as before I couldn't even get up a few stairs without grabbing my inhaler! I feel so stupid that I used to smoke so heavily with asthma. I think I finally get what my doctor has been telling me all these years :D

Hi Gemma.

I'm soooo glad for you that you gave up. I was thinking the other day 'why do people start smoking?'. I can't give a proper reason why I started it to be honest. Anyway hairstraighteners can be a pain in the butt sometimes. I just leave it curly when i get too p-d off. lol When I wanted some back up while I was on the quitting period I started to read a lot of articles to get more informations. The more I knew the better I felt. Don't know why. Anyway hope you ok and stayed smoke free.
