i don;t think there is any of us that haven't the same feelings of jealousy of people that quit, and also thinking why can't we quit.

But WE Can, YOU can!!!!!

Best of luck for Monday

I do think if i can get a good start the longer i go the better i will be. I really want to stop but all the other times have been the same 100%, but some things alway changers in me. As time go on i seem to forget why i stopped. The strange thing for me almost as soon as I'v stopped I feel great, fit, healthy. i have never gone away from this website i am on everyday reading how people are going on. This website is the best you will get for helping people stop smoking. Thanks Jam for your support.;)

Hello Old timer

Hi Deano,

great to see you getting back on the wagon again. I am just like you, the boomerang quitters!! Still at least we keep coming back. I admire your strength cos I know it has not been the easiest of times for you, so hats off. I am also using patches and my top tip (if you really want one from me!) is that I top up with the 2mg lozenges or the mini tab things. This has saved my quit on countless occasions, especially when out in the pub. I can highly recommend this to you as it relieves the urge to smoke when you are sitting with your smoking mates and by having something in your mouth, it distracts you from thinking " I have to have a fag "(drink talking of course!). Also, I have drastically cut down on drinking alcohol as it doesn't seem the same without a fag. I mean this in a good way though. I just feel calmer in general, so will drink if I am out, but don't go mad. Although, one Saturday night I deliberately drank quite a lot cos I was so irritable at not being able to smoke. This actually was fine as I felt rough the next day and didn't feel like smoking and, I reckon, at least I didn't smoke whilst drunk. But, in the end , I have decided to live a quiet, sober life and will shortly be going to a nun's retreat for a week's holiday. Ok, I am not really, but sometimes, it feels like I am leading such a healthy life that I am in serious danger of doing some exercise. Luckily, it has not got to that stage yet, but I am on the verge as I am feeling much healthier and have a lot more energy. So good luck and remember, it is a rough ride at times, but, if I can do it, you definitely can!!! And it is fantastic to be free of the smokes most of the time and it gets easier as you go along. Anyway, good luck and we are all here to help. Go for it!!! Good luck.

Thanks

Hi Rachel (feels like I am talkng to myself!), thanks a lot for your encouragement and all your comments. It really does help knowing we are all in the same boat and just getting on with it day by day. You are doing great and should feel proud of yourself cos , as you know, it is not easy!! Still, I reckon it is a great idea to have a goal like yours, the Carribean for your birthday. You can do it!! Funny, the only place (apart from the shower) I always hated smoking was on the beach, but felt that I needed the nicotine, so did it anyway. Just didn't feel right and I hate finding fag butts in the sand. So another incentive, a fab holiday with no need to spoil the beach experience and loads of energy to swim and sunbathe(!). You should get a photo of where you want to go and stick it on the fridge as a reminder. You've got me thinking now of what I should use my fag money for...

Anyway, take care, nearly another weekend under our belts.

You did it!

hi Deano,

well done, you have taken by the bull by the horns and quit the fags. Be a proud patch-wearer (it is so much easier giving up in the winter, cos the patch isn't visible!) and take it day by day. I am doing fine, thanks for the encouragement. We are all with you, so post if things get tough. You are an old hand, like me, so it does seem a bit groundhog day at first, but we are troopers who just won't give up (giving up) and we should be proud. I am relying on patches, lozenges (only the odd one tho), will-power and this forum. It really is O.K and, unbelievably, the last couple of mornings, fags have not been my first conscious thought. Usually my second or third (not bad)! But it is getting so much easier and I feel more in control of my life. S big smile and grit your teeth, we can do this!!!

take care

Hi Racheal I'm going to the doctor later in the week to see if he will give me some micro tabby things just for when I'm out drinking. I'm using patches but I do think I may need something for the hard times just to take the edge off. God how many times have I been here before:o.

nsd_user663_4743 profile image

good idea

Hi Deano,

yes, get hold of the microtabs. They really have stopped fme rom smoking when I having a drink or 4. They really take the edge off and sort of trick my brain into thinking I am smoking. Actually , it is a top up of nicotine without the cigarette, a good thing as someone on the foru said that alcohol increases our need for nicotine. It doesn't matter, as long as you feel calmer and less likely to grab a fag off your mates. It definitely works for me, cos alcohol has always been the quit- breaker for me. I now know that I can enjoy a drink without feeling that something is missing (well, almost). Give up drinking? Yes, I admit, I could, but it is too depressing to order a coke when everyone is having a proper drink. It is hard enough not smoking without giving up all the pleasures in life. Although, admittedly, I have limited my nights out and, due to my quit, I feel safer at home of a Saturday night. But I refuse to give up the social life altogether, so am arming myself with the microtabs or pastels. Tabs work better as they taste a bit stronger. Roll on the xmas challenge, I can almost see the fags tempting me back for the festive season. I will remain focussed and rely on my will power but I must say I am dreading it. One day at a time....

good luck Deano and keep going!!

take care
