Day 22 - advice please

Hello again everyone,

Well, I'm pleased to say that today I hit the three week mark and am looking forward to a month off the cigarettes. I feel OK - I have good days and bad days like everyone else - but I know it's worth it.

The only thing is I am SO tired, ALL of the time. I never felt like this when I was still smoking, but honestly, I am struggling to keep my eyes open all of the time. I had a nasty cold for a couple of weeks and don't think I'm over that, but even so...could this really still be a symptom of the nicotine withdrawal after 3 weeks cold turkey? I'm 31, and on Saturday afternoon I had to have a 2 hour nap! I could do this every day, but I have a job to do, so it's not really an option. My sleeping patterns haven't changed or been disrupted, but I am just wiped out all of the time.

Has anyone else experienced similar? Is this normal? Any advice / help gratefully received.

Thank you.

Hiya - well done you on 22 days quit

Sleep problems and being tired is all part of the quitting journey for most.

Reading this link may help you a little:

For 2 weeks after I stopped my nicotene patches I was tired all of the time... I don't see why you couldn't still be tired after 3 weeks! You're body's getting used to a massive change.

It is terribly annoying though, I was getting 8-9 hours of good sleep per night and would still have to nap sometimes after work.

I'll tell you what tho, eating healthly food and stuff that's not too fatty helps. As does doing exersise - I felt completely re-energised after a workout for an hour! And still do (although it is quite hard getting to the gym in the first place!)

haha, what I mean is peel an orange and then dip it into a bowl of melted chocolate... mmmmmm.... :D

I stand by the gym option tho! Specially if it includes no treadmills *shudders* my God I hate treadmills!

Change it to strawberry and chocolate and then we're cooking on gas :D

Gyms - now the the only good thing I can see at the moment about them are the nice hunky, muscled up men. :p

I brought a tredmill it's spent most of it's life folded up, with my clothes hung on the ends :o

I'm sure I will get into exercise when I get myself in the right mindset

Strawberry and Chocolate it is then!

I find that not many hunky men go to my gym! But it's fun because I do classes (Aerobics, Yoga, Zumba etc) which keep me busy... couldn't manage an actual gym session with bikes and stuff... I would die of boredom!

Yes, I've heard treadmills make great clothes hangers! I'm sure if you just stare at it for long enough its like you're using it really...

Hello - and well done on getting to 3 months.

One of the effects of quitting for me was my sleeping - I felt I could sleep all day and I felt tired a lot. But I think this kicked in a bit later in my quit month 3/4- so everyone is different.

But I can say that it passed and I have more energy now than I did as a smoker - and on the sleeping front I now have a more restorativce sleep and wake mmore alert.

Its a well known side effect and will pass.
