I really am so OVER smoking.

It's like a miracle really! I just wanted to come on here and share some positive information for anyone considering giving up smoking.

On the 10th of August i'll be 6 months quit, i gave up on national no smoking day. I felt serious about quitting and to be quite honest there was a part of me that thought i couldn't do it and i would fail so there is no point in quitting really so i had to get support but i didn't want NRT and all that stuff. So i came on here, read some amazing posts and read as many signitures as i could prior to quitting. This was an enormous help! When i did quit i stayed close to this forum a bit like a life line or a smoking substitute and i would come on here when i was feeling 'needy' i suppose and it worked for me.

I went through awful withdrawing, feeling ill, miserable, snappy, bored etc etc but within a matter of weeks it was over. I take a very honest and positive attitude towards life and this too was a big help, i forced myself to take up running and learning how to cope with life without smoking came about quickly. Feeling the benefits is such a huge reward and i can whole-heartedly say 'I am over it!' I felt very positive about my quit within weeks, i can be around smokers and it doesn't bother me. In fact i spend time with a smoker and it wafts in my face, i breath it in, i can even roll fags etc. I just DON'T MISS IT one bit, it's like i have had the desire totally removed and i feel 100% confident i will never smoke again. It's fantastic! I never in my wildest dreams imagined this to be possible, seriously i was a real fag ash lil....I would smoke like a train with wine in me! Now... i am fine without.

Not smoking is the way to go and if i can do it you can. If you care about your health and those around you find the strength take the bit in your mouth and be ruthless - i did and i promise you it is worth it.

Good luck and thanks for reading. :) xx

I am confused Angel 10th Feb is 6 Months babe am I being dim LOL you are trying to make me think my grey matter has seeped out aren’t you, ok its worked, other than that I so agree with your reasoning and the fact that making an informed decision to never smoke again really helps to make you never want to smoke again if that makes sense, that’s exactly how I feel this time, keep it up and keep giving the support you are so good at giving x

Always good to see a positive post! I too have good friends who smoke (and a husband who also does again now!), and the smell and sight of fags is not an issue. There are still occasions I get pangs, but, keep the forum close to hand and keep your reasons to the forefront of your mind and you're on to a winner! Well done you x

Good point Fiona, having the forum nearby and reasons why we quit at the fore makes it easier. I think putting out a positive attitude helps too.

I must admit though, as much as i am ok with smokers that doesn't mean i want to be inhaling too much 2nd hand smoke - it's rank LOL.
