Hey All

Specifically aimed at those who quit before me and are still on the website but open to all obviously.

Still having mucus problems apparently this is not normal, explained to the doctor that I didn't know what normal was having smoked to 20 years, advice to use another type of nasal spray (as last caused rebound symptoms when stopping). Think this can also be attributed to not having a hacking cough etc when stopping, don't think I have coughed up much but given the level of exercise I was indulging in at the time, not surprised.

Before anyone gets concerned not got any big issues, everything checked out fiine and the liklihood is that this is part of the healing process.

So you long termers, any words of wisdom?

Perhaps should of stuck this in the year part!

Hey Mel

I have no thoughts to add but I hate to see a thread with nothing. Especially when the poster is a lovely as you! I still have a cough. Not serious, but still a post quit issue. Didnt really suffer pre quit. Does that count? Love fi xxxx

Thanks Fi

Was wondering if some of the others like Jackie, Cav, Marg etc might know too, don't want to seem negative as giving up is still a proud achievement so don't want it in the face of new quitters, as the sneaky nicodemon will find any excuse to lure a person back. One of my peeps has already said that one of the factors for them not qutting is the thought of coughing up all the rubbish. Having quit I can admit that such thinking is a cop out but you know how hard it is to stop.

Hey Mel, I've had the worst allergies this year..... eventually turned into sinus infection, even had vertigo for weeks..... is that what you're talking about when saying mucus related? If it is nose related then I highly suggest one of those netipots..... here's what I use, it's easy and actually feels good to use.... pm me if you want to know more....

Cheers BB13

Have no idea what it is, someone suggested sinisitis so gave a nasal spray a go but had rebound symptoms, I've never had hayfever although that has been the most popular suggestion.

Remember BB posting about Post Nasal Drip, going on a fast from dairy and using a nasal spray, really don't want to do a fast from dairy as it's so difficult.

Think it may just be a healing thing.

In many ways I'm just glad I'm quit and will just ride this out; just wanted more knowledge and comparison, also there is the possibility of COPD etc etc, so am to take a non decongestant that doesn't contain xylometazoline, so to try a anti-histamine type for 3 or so weeks, if that doesn't work then back for a ENT spe******t.

My advice try the saline rinse..... it's cheap, you can make your own and the little bottle costs almost nothing, and it is non irritating (less than nose spray). Do the rinse twice a day and see if symptoms don't improve in a week. Allergies for me just developed last year and this year..... food allergies? Don't get me started on that  With all the processed foods and genetically altered foods no wonder we are getting allergies.........

Hi Mah,

Didn't see your post yesterday. Luckily I don't seem to have any post quit issues...although I was concerned for a while about not having the lung capacity I thought I should. Doc tested it out and it seems I've got the lung capacity of a guy of my age. TBH I was hoping for a bit more than that as I am pretty fit from cycling.

Coughing up mucus does not necessarily occur as you are aware when we stop smoking. I didn't when I stopped this last occasion but on previous attempts I did. Maybe as you say this has got something to do with ones level of fitness. On those occasions when I did cough up I wasn't doing much fitness wise.

Try the nasal wash thing that Bella suggests...it seems to have worked out very well for her...and if it's cheap then.

Hope it all works out for you :)

Yea re gm foods and allergies, don't get me started. Over here there is a big movement against them and tbh the companies which develop the products take a somewhat cavilier attitude to the growing of their products, such as, well if cross polination occurs you can't say your product is non GM, sucess through attrition mentaility.

Just havin a read through my lil soldier ;)

Mel, Hopi Ear candles might just sort you out. Have a google n see what you think - I had it done at begining of quit for blockages and it worked a treat mate :)

Chrissie x

Haven't used hopi earwax for a while, might still have some, have used in the past when I have blocked ear, could be related I suppose, worth a go.

Cheers Chrissie.
