Morning All

Anybody else suffering from hayfever style symptoms this year?

Never had hayfever but have had to start using the nasal spray again, have checked back and done a search but to no avail, the symptoms are those of hayfever but have never been a sufferer. Have been following the NHS advice about cool rooms, etc etc but am wondering if it's unusually bad this year?

Am tired and grumpy through lack of sleep again today and to make matters worse it's Monday (really loathe Mondays).

Thankees

Strange about the hayfever thing. I sometimes suffer, but not always, my daughter suffered for about 4 years, but hasn't this year? Different allergens in the air make us react differently and different times it seems, very weird.

The weather has been so dry and the air seems so 'dusty' if you know what I mean, perhaps steam would help, try a hot bath?

Hope you sleep better tonight knowing Monday is over with!

Lorraine :)

Mornin' MAH

I usually suffer mildly but was hoping after quitting it might get better - no such luck. The pollen count has been moderate so far so we've not even hit the high yet - something to look forward too :(

Sorry can't offer any advice - I just use the nasal spray :)

Decongestant

Have stopped using nasal decongestant, not sure if I do have hayfever but definately blocked nose and mucus pool at back of the throat, is this PND???? Still????

Apparently I'm not to use decongestants for long term as coming off them can result in the return of the problem, although am feeling as if it's never gone away.

Have read that natural decongestants such as onions help, so onions with tuna salad for lunch.

A real pain in the arse/

Oilbus oil isn't working either, which when I have a cold does - what's going on?????

MAH so glad you have brought this up as I have never had Hay Fever before but I seem to have all the symptoms, the blocked nose and back of throat thing you have mentioned so have decided that it is a post smoking thing and actually quite glad as that means it will clear up, I hope, did read somewhere that there are something’s that if you didn’t have them before quit you can get them after and vice versa so hope that’s not the case as well as I didn’t get heartburn before but get it now.

And just so you can let me know if anything clears it, I havent tried anything yet.

Hi MAH

The only thing I can suggest is damp dusting - I can't bear to have windows shut etc when it's nice out so that means daily damp dusting. It's tedious but seems to help.

As does wine ;)

The nasal sprays have been working a treat, perfect infact however downside is they're a short term solution should not be used frequently and can cause a rebound effect, i.e. once you stop using all the symptoms return. Was originally advised by GP (several months ago for the Post Nasal Drip thing and the mucus at the back of the throat) and when cold/hayfever/sinusitis (could be anything at this stage) about 3 weeks ago started taking the spray again as it cleared the breathing very easily, problem is I'm still ill, so have stopped using the miracle cure, feel like poop and the decongestant tablets do not work in the same manner, took one shortly after 12pm today and already has lost it's effectiveness, I'm blocked and breathing through my nose!

Have phone NHS direct and have a series of suggestions from them, starting with a damp spong on desk to keep air moist, to a damp towel over radiator and a plant in the bedroom.

Lastly I've checked for natural cures and have tried eucalyptus oil (Olbus) doesn't work and have eaten onions, still tasting those buggers - not so nice.

Don't know what's wrong, perhaps it's just my lungs healing and clearing out the gunk as I aspirate. Therefore nicely shifting from lungs to nasal where it condenses and drips nuicely back into gullet forming the delicious mucus pool in the back of my throat. I'm going to stop here before I remind muyself of someone I don't like very much.

Ok off the decongestant nasal spray

And so far today haven't taken any decongestant tablets either, nor have I taken any hayfever stuff and nose is clear!!!!!

However, throat is vaguely sore, puddle of mucus as per and ears hurt when I swallow, on this basis am keeping NHS advice about seeing doctor next week.

Is it home time yet, what a week and still a day to go.
