2nd Day Today.

Hi, just found the forum and it seems a good idea set out in the way it is as I did want to keep a sorta "diary" to my quitting smoking, so definitely had to sign up.

I chose to start giving up yesterday, using the NHS SmokeFree service. I was supplied with patches and the lozenges. The patches itch for 15 or so minutes, and give me a dull ache for an hour after application, but nothing I can't handle. The lozenges, well, I'm not fairing up too well with them. But I didn't smoke despite what felt to me like very intense cravings. I was shaking, had sweaty palms, and was very irritable.

Although one good thing about yesterday was I ate more than twice the amount of food I did when I smoked. Which is good considering I weight 10 st dripping wet through! I need the extra weight haha!

Anyway, Happy No Smoking Day folks and I hope I will be continuing to post progress in the Day 3 + forums and look forward to sharing advice and experiences on quitting with you all.

Thanks.

Hi Adrian and welcome to the forum, well done for reaching day 2.

Didn't do patches myself so can't really give advice on those, but I would recommend that you read the links you can find around here they will really help you stay focused.

Loads of people around to give you help and advice when necessary, post often to rant or to rave either is fine.

Looking forward to your day 3 post.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

I did patches. I would say that they arent a miracle cure. You will still get craves so use them as a springboard to get your mindset right regarding why you've quit. Use the forum to post and to support others and read the links. Well done!

Thank you for the welcomes and replies.

I'm not using the patches alone, I'm on the NiQuitin 24hr Clear patches and have NiQuitin Lozenges for when I get cravings. The lozenges though are minty for a few minutes but then it feels like what only can be described as a burning sensation in my mouth. This slowly moves to my throat and makes me feel rather sick so I can only let one half dissolve before I have to spit it out so I'm only getting maybe 2mg instead of 4.

Marg, I'd have a look at those links and the psychological one I can definitely relate to some of the symptoms/feelings.

I'm getting urges to smoke, not cravings, at the moment. I know where there are cigarettes in the house, which probably isn't very good for me. I went and opened the packet, half took one out, then put it back and put in another lozenge so I currently feeling very sick but I'm going to try to let this one fully dissolve.

I'm not wanting to give up so early into this, recieving lots of encouragement and praise from friends even though it is early on. One close friend has even given up today for his 2nd time using an electronic cigarette to give me a bit more moral support and so I know I'm not alone in it.

Day 2 is becoming much more of a fight than day 1 was. Definitely.

Ok, success with that lozenge, I managed to let it fully dissolve. It would seem the worse my cravings get, the stronger my willpower becomes.

Well done Adrian, the craves will come, but they will pass, and as time goes by they will get less and less.

Yep, and soon today will be over. And you will be on to day three. How you can have fags in the house I don't know though! I'd chuck them out. :D

Ok, 2nd day complete.

My eatings calmed down and my sense of smell is returning. It's all pretty much happened tonight. My ex thought I was going doo-lally especially when the shakes/sweaty palms/restlessness started! :D

But about to go to bed now so I can write day 2 off as a success. It's been harder than day one, but upon reflection, not as difficult as it seems just yet.

I'm feeling confident now, and working tomorrow so bring on day 3. I hope work keeps my mind off smoking!

Ok, I thought Day 2 seemed easy but I went to bed and it all went wrong.

I couldn't sleep at all through restlessness, my mind was constantly wandering and I just couldn't settle. About 1am I started to get quite a nasty pounding headache. This subsided around 2pm only to be replaced by sweating. At 3:45 I phoned work to say I hadn't slept and didn't want to turn up in an unfit state. Now my headache has once again returned.

However, I've not had a lozenge since 11pm last night. Not craving, not rubbing my mouth like I do when I crave, not thinking "Have a cig Ade" then remembering I'm stopping smoking (ie forgetting I smoke).

Not good. I can't afford time off work.
