Just getting a bit concerned that we might miss a new starter today, cause it is really busy on here, which is fantastic.

I for one would like to welcome all new quitters today. There is loads of stuff around here for you to read to make your quit strong and long.

Take some time to read the links, it will really help.

There are also loads of people around here to help and support you with your quit, we are all aiming for the same thing - To be happy non smokers.

I choose not to smoke today, and I am glad that you do too.

I second that!

Here are a couple of general hints....

H.A.L.T - Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired. All of these can mimic craves. Do a checklist of these and address these issues first before deciding if it is really a crave.

Check out this link .. woofmang.com/tales/only_on_...

I found this to be very inspiring on my first day.

As Bev said. Choose not to smoke.

Welcome and happy quitting!

I echo all the above from Bev and Fi.

A huge welcome to all new quitters - one of the best decisions you will ever make.

I am with the others. My advice in the early days is to comfort eat, it will do you the world of good. Chocolate and lollies were my weapon of choice.

Quitting is easy, it's damn life that's hard. Good luck:)

Yes - welcome to all the newbies (Bev - not rude at all - good move on the bump!)

There are great people on here who have quit using all the methods under the sun - I myself am a Cold Turkey-er.

If you've got any questions - ask. Someone on here knows the answer.

If you've got concerns - voice them. Someone on here has also had them.

If you have a crave - read here and post a message. Someone will answer it.

Good luck to all!

Welcome all new quitters. Education is the key to quitting smoking and staying quit. Read as much as you can. You know the old saying, "Know thy enemy!" well, nictotine is our enemy and the more you know about nicotine addiction the better able you will be to quit and stay quit. Below is a few good links to read as well as the posts on this forum. Remember you are not losing anything by quitting, you are gaining health, wealth, and freedom! Jody

cash

If it helps to motivate anyone I have smoked for approximately 35 years, 20 a day, and have now been stopped for three weeks. It's not easy but it is possible. I dread to think how much I have set fire to, inhaled and then blown out  (please no answers) but I can tell you I have saved around £105 over that past 21 days.

£105. What could you do with that?

nsd_user663_4786 profile image
nsd_user663_4786

Indeed £105, a very good night out :D

Welcome from me too

Brilliant idea Bev :D

Welcome to everyone who has taken the decision to stop smoking today.

It is the one of the best things you will ever do in your life, not just for you but for everyone who loves you also.

It may seem hard at times or even maybe impossible but it truly isn't.

You will get there & reap the rewards.

Welcome to freedom new quitters, its tough, it hard but it's worth it. Put your best foot forward and read all the links on the site and in the signatures. Knowing what the addictions, does and how it make you feel are very important to making your quit successful. Support here from others is going to help, your posting here with opinions and advice help too! Being able to just chat with others quitting is also a help.

I do have to say though, you guys really do get up way to early LOL.

For any that don't already know, there is a support group within this site set up specifically for March quitters.

Personally and historically, joining a support group for the month you quit really can give additional support and help along with fun and continuity.

To find the March group go to Quick Links, click Social Groups and look for the March to Freedom group .

Well worth joining in a group :)

Welcome to everyone quitting today....taking the first step is the scariest and hardest part.

There is loads of advice on here and we are all different to take what you need and shout up if anyone can help.

BUT...Pol is right...get into a small group it really is a lifesaver. The wider forum is fantastic and great for seeing some of the longer term quitters, especially the one year posts, can give so much inspiration. (I still find it strange to think that is me now!!)

But its your buddies today that will pull you kicking and screaming through this. Laugh together and cry together.

Anyway the very best of luck to you all

HI All

Dont know if I am sending this to the right place so ill wait and see.Had last cigarette on saturday night and decided to try the 24 hr patches my daughter n law gave me.Im not sure if they are helping or not and I take it off at bedtime.Tried stopping once before about five years ago and lasted 3 weeks but I wasnt really determined then.I dont know if I should try now without the patches as I feel much the same with the cravings as I did the first time round ct.I want the nicotine out my system too and feel im not doing that with the patches.I have not been sleeping great the last couple of nights either and its usually something im good at.Any Suggestions please.

Hi Denpar and welcome to the forum.

Posting here is fine, don't worry about you'll soon get the hang of it.

Can't really help with the patches as I did CT, but loads of people around here quit using the patches and I am sure some will be along to give you advice.

Every quit is different, and you have to do it the best way for you, I would recommend that you read as much as you can around the forum, try the links they will help too.

You have not had a cig since Saturday so that makes 5 days quit, that is fantastic and whatever you decide to do the main thing is you decide not to smoke.

Good luck, stay strong.

Hi Denpar

Try copy and pasting your post here to Day 1. Nothing wrong at all with it being here, but it's good to get in Day 1 too :)

I used the 24hr patches for about 5 days I think, enjoyed the dreams but kept waking up to often and I don't cope well with disturbed nights. I dropped to the 16 hr patches which helped with sleep a lot but didn't want nicotine around any longer, plus I didn't like they way they (the patches) made my skin smell. I thought about it and figured after 3 weeks (from starting my quit) that I was stable and secure in my quit to stop the patches.

Don't risk your quit by stopping early, but give it some thought. It could be the right thing for you.

Hi Denpar & welcome.

I would say if the patches don't actually help with the craving then to not bother with them. May also help with your sleeping as well but that maybe due to your body adjusting anyway. I find the patches help greatly with withdrawal but if I found they didn't I wouldn't bother. Get it over & done with so to speak.

Well done on your 5 days, that's brilliant.

Bumping once more.

Ok to finish for me tonight, just want to say how proud I am of all the "oldies" around here, today was not a normal day for the forum and I think (though I could be wrong) that we supported every single newbie, that's what this place is all about.

If you are a newbie and we missed you, so sorry post again and someone will get to you it has been madness today, and trust me it is not normally like this.

I choose not to smoke today.
