Congratulations!!
Hello!
Well done on making the decision to quit. Best decision you will ever make.
Who needs to think these days anyway - overrated if you ask me
Really pleased to hear that your colleagues are being supportive and helping you out. Makes a big difference.
All I will suggest is lots of water although am sure the peppermint tea will be just as good.
Read lots on this site and on peoples links, it will help loads.
Take care,
Debs
day one for me too, just keep telling yourself 'you CAN do it'
and you can do it! Do whatever it takes to realign your mind to not smoking and the rest will follow!!
Hi bigquitter, remember what you told me? "let's do it this time"
Had my last cigarette at 23:45 last night after coming back from the pictures
Wasn't really getting that many cravings so far today till I started writing this,
now getting a massive wave of cravings, I've got a slightly different mental
approach to this stop in that I am thinking that the cravings are a good thing,
as in it means this horrible addiction/disease is dying and needs fed.
And I'm not going to feed something that may kill me one day
Best of luck for the rest of the day folks, we can all do it together
Well done for quitting today, and yes of course you can do it. Keep focussed, drink lot's and take it a bit at a time.
Do some deep breathing through the craves, they only last a few minutes, don't worry about thinking about smoking, it's natural at this time, it's what you do with that thought that matters, think it through logically, read up on some of the links if you can or have bits printed that you can look at if you find yourself getting in a bit of a panic, focus that mind on all the negatives of smoking.
You not only can do it, but you are doing it,
Lorraine
thanks to all great messages - been looking everytime i need one - thats a few times....
going out for nice lunch at 12 with non smoker so that should help and i am looking forward to tasting my lunch instead of woofing it down so i have more time for fags.
i was thinking this moringing my whole life is based around when i can smoke, when am i going to get a chance... and i plan my whole day areound it i am stick of being a slave to the nicotine - give me freedom !!!
1/2 day done....
1/2 a day already done, fantastic. Take it one hour at a time if you need, in the early days of my quit I would "choose not to smoke for the next hour" and do that again and again throughout the day.
If you get chance read the links, well done for your 1/2 a day and looking forward to seeing your post on day 2!
Half a day done, doesn't time fly eh. Enjoy that lunch, and I mean really enjoy it. Relax, enjoy the food and the company and enjoy the time without that little nag at the back of your mind telling you to pop off somewhere for a minute.
That is the bit I love about not smoking, as you said about planning your day around when to smoke, you can now plan your day around what you want to do, when, how and where. Freedom is yours, enjoy it.
Have a good lunch,
Lorraine
Hi BQ,
And welcome to the forum.
I echo what Bev says there - just choose not to smoke. Keep repeating that choice - the minutes will mount into hours, the hours into days. Choose not to smoke and you will succeed.
Hi Bigquitter
Well done you and well done so far but the way you're feeling is normal and won't last for long OK

bad craving....
Breathe through the pain big quitter!!
My first day too, although not too bad so far. Are you using NRT or going it all alone?
Take a break, go for a walk, have a boiled sweet, cup of coffee/tea, anything to take your mind off it. It won't last long just keep reminding yourself of that. And if you did cave in you would probably feel sick anyway, so it's not worth it - come on, you can do it
BTW - seriously consider getting a form of NRT - it'll really help when the cravings get very bad. I'm using patches and the inhalator and have to say the cravings haven't been too bad and I've been smoking 20 years so I know what it's like
Hi BQ,
Sure cravings are hard but it sounds like your hanging in there which is great.
just keep making the choice not to smoke, that's your 'free will' choosing not to smoke and every time you use your free will it gets more powerful and the choice get easier.
Best of luck.
