Hi all ... I woke up on Sunday the 7th Feb with with a horrible hangover, stinking of booze and cigarettes and thought to myself .... Why am i going out my way to reduce the length of my life when i have 3 children ?

I thought of how my life would be without these addictions and decided to quit for good cold turkey

the first few days were very hard but since i only start craving at about 8pm onwards which i deal with by drinking loads of tea

Ive listened to a 6 hour cd by allen carr which has been good help

and im going to download paul Mckenna's hynosis cd

Although i feel able to cope with the craving i think the biggest problem is my mind playing tricks on me

Its like im doing fine without it but theres a devil inside reminding me how much i enjoyed smoking and drinking with friends in the pub

Its going to be a battle all the way

Hi Markus :)

Well done on 2 + weeks smoke free that's great

Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathising with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

This link is good for the psychological part of quitting whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Sympt...

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here OK

Love

Marg

Well done Markus!

Good work, and for completely the right reasons too - just keep reminding yourself that you have everything to gain and nothing at all to lose, although it might not feel like that at times.

Alcohol just makes it so much harder to succeed - you are doing the right thing.

My advice would be to come on here as often as you can - there is all the help and support here you could possibly need, and sometimes friends are not the best people to provide that (especially if they are all down the pub).

Don't let your efforts be sabotaged by longing for something which gave you nothing but harm - you are gaining future health and happiness this way.

Stay strong and all the best.

Just read your blog

... good for you!

You mentioned the mind games involved – this might be worth a read, as are all the other tales... talesfromthequit.com/my-demon

Well done, you sound really determined - I shall keep up with your efforts to transform your life as I try to transform mine! :)

As you say - never surrender!

Hi Markus,

That's really amazing to quit both for 16 days! Here at day 5 day 16 seems an eternity away...

I quit alcohol almost 4 months ago - knew there was no way I could quit smoking while I was still drinking as the association was too strong. Just think of the nice things you are doing for your lungs and your liver. :D

That little voice is strong, and will tell you anything. But it will get quieter over time, I'll bet. Just keep doing what you are doing and try to replace with something you enjoy.

Hey Markus,

Heres some good solid practical advice. If you found the Allen Carr audio helped then I urge you to buy a copy of the "Stop Smoking in 60 minutes" DVD.

A serving suggestion of where to buy it...

amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carrs-Ea...

It's a bit "school video" in it's presentation but makes solid sense. I'm on Day 45 and watch it still to re-inforce how ridiculous smoking really is.

Hey Beccy,

That's great! The more people that watch this the better. And no I'm not a Power Seller on Amazon so I've got no vested interest in this other than people stopping smoking more painlessly!

It's like the visual version of the book, you just watch it thinking "Oh yeh, duh, how stupid I've been for the last "X" years..."

Beware of the presenters "Just for men" hair colour though. Other than that it's fab!

Hi all

thanks for your help and well done getting this far yourself

Its about this time 3 weeks ago i had my last smoke

Its been hard at times especially on the evenings but the craving has reduced and im excited that i may never be a smoker again

wouldn't it be great that in the future we can confidently say .. ' no I DONT SMOKE'

to those that can still afford to offer one away

And be even better when we can say that and instead of feeLING temPTED

we feel sorry for them for still being in that trap
