Hi there,

I am not sure if i am posting in the right thread so feel free to move.

This is my fourth serious attempt of stoping smoking last year i stopped for 6 months however i went on holiday and just thought i would have one and was straight back to smoking a pack a day.

That time i stoped with patches and gum and i think what didnt help me was that i got hooked on the gum.

I have then tryed twice cold turkey and only lasted a week or so and i really found that difficult.

So went back to stop smoking clinic and they have given me champix.

Today i am on day 8 and so far have to say i dont feel any different i am still smoking the same the lady at my stop smoking clinic yesterday that it is ok.

However i was wondering what other peoples experiences were like using champix.

And if and when they thought the champix may be helping.

I understand that it is not a mircle drug and i wont just wake up one day and have no desire to smoke again however i thought by now i would of experienced something more than an upset stomach.

Hi Pumpkin :)

Welcome back to the forum

I used champix with good results It will kibk in very soon now and you'll suddenly discover you really don't want to smoke any more full stop

go with what you'r body tells you when you reach that point don't force yourself to smoke I did that and felt dreadful the last couple of days

So no it's not a miracle drug but you could well wake up one day and that's it you won't want a fag

Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

Hello Pumpkin....I too gave up with Champix......I just found that around day 9 and onwards the desire to smoke was there but the ciggies tasted awful....so I stopped smoking and have been smoke free for 6 months.

Try and eat b4 taking the tabs and that should fix your upset tummy and drink heaps of water....and the very best of luck to you:D

Hi

I sucessfully quit with Champix. I had very similar experiences to you, I wasn't really feeling anything with it - apart from nausea!

After about 12 days, I just thought that I'd try to stop smoking and see what happened. Sort of a situation where I was going to smoke if I craved one, but wasn't going to force myself to smoke.

Just go with it, don't worry, don't rush it and don't force yourself to smoke.

I was the same as Cyprien, I took the tablets for 14 days and didn't feel any different. I thought the tablets weren't working for me but realised I had to stop smoking and see what happened. At this stage I was petrified of stopping! However, I stopped and didn't get any cravings...I had the usual stopping to go and have a fag moment, realised I wasn't smoking anymore and just carried on....a really weird feeling. It really felt like all my emotions had shut down. After a few weeks, I think when the body is used to the champix, the craves started to kick in but nothing like I imagined. It was just my temper that had increased a hundredfold :D

So, don't be afraid of stopping and good luck!!

I quit on day 8 of Champix and it was my first attempt to quit. It would be interesting to see the stats on success between CT and Champix. You still need will power but it does work.

Good luck

Thanks for all your feed back and encouragement, well after posting that yesterday i started on the second week of champix the blue tablets.

Yesterday and today the side effects have really increased have really bad stomach cramps and feel very sick and tired.

Do these pass once the tablets get into your system ? Yesterday i noticed that i didnt quite so many normally i am a 25 - 30 a day smoker and had less than 20 and some of them i thought do i want this.

And some of the ones i smoked the only way i can explain it is, they tasted like the first cigs i ever smoked very strong and horrible.

So i am hoping that the champix may be beginning to work, so what i was wondering do i wait for this to get worse and cut down more or as i have noticed some differnce do i just stop now.

Thanks

The Champix Box told me I had to pick a day between 8 and 14 to call my quit date. I chose 8th day because I thought, well if I am gonna do it 'Just do it'

I got up on the morning of 8th day and instead of heading into the conservatory for a fag, I just made a coffee and sat watching TV for a while. No burning urge to smoke. I think you need to pick a date to stop and not leave it to chance that you will just not want a ciggi, remember smoking is a habit as well as an addiction, you may continue to smoke out of habit when you don't need to.

All medications like champix are what I call 'Mind altering', they adjust the chemical balance in your brain, block receivers and transmitters, something that is bound to make you feel a little unwell, but your body will get used to is in quite a short space of time.

I have been taking Champix for 34 days now and I think my body has got used to it and is now starting to believe it needs more.

I have tried going Cold Turkey, Patches, Gum, Puffers, Hypnosis, acupuncture - This quit has been the easiest quit I have ever done, not saying it is easy you will still sometimes want a fag! thats when the willpower comes in you just have to learn to say NO.

I fel quite ill when I went on to the blue ones for the first time. It was better if I ate something before taking them, so try that. But the nausea and tiredness never really went away when I was on Champix so I cut down after about a month and felt much better (and still didn't want a cigarette)

Try not to jump off any buildings please !! hell they are getting ready to BAN CHantix in the USA !!

Oh wait theres to much Phara $$$$$$$ so IT's OK we'll let you take it .

Get an E-cig and FORGET IT !!

Am I surprised ? nope, wouldn't be surprised if they tried to ban paracetamol in the states because people use it to overdose on!

Champix is very safe for some people, I am living proof! AND I have all the complications that they say would cause me problems.

PS Jumping off buildings takes too much effort!

Well i am on day 12 of taking champix some of the side effects have started to lessen somewhat.

So far today i have smoked half a cig so thinking tomorrow will be the day to quit i must say im very scared.

But i must say i really think the champix has helped enormously i am finding i dont really crave a cig, however i feel my habit is very strong.

The ones i have smoked the last day or so have felt like im just smoking for habit dont feel im getting anything from.

So will really have to work on that, also my glands have come up in my throat and i am starting to cough the muck up so my body is starting to clear itself all ready.

Thanks again for all your help

Hello everyone, this is my very first post here, so please be gentle with me!

I`m in my sixties and have been smoking for about 50 years, which is a scary thought.

Over the years I have attempted to stop quite a few times, trying everything from hypnotism to patches, but always ended up smoking again.

Four weeks ago, I went with a couple of friends to our local stop smoking clinic.

With the agreement of a GP, I was prescribed Champix, and apart from some nausea when I was taking the low dosage ones, didn`t have any problems, and had my last cigarrete on day 10.

But when I was taking the full strength ones, I`m afraid I did start to have some problems.

I went from experiencing nausea, to full blown projectile vomiting, so much so, that I could have auditioned for The Exorcist!

Then I started to have a lot of joint pain, and even chest pain, so decided I`d stop taking them, and the symptons stopped.

I mentioned this at the clinic, and it was suggested that I cut each pill in half, and see how I got on with the lower dosage again.

So I did that, but started to have a lot of pain again, so I`m obviously one of the unlucky ones who it doesn`t suit.

However, I did stop smoking whilst I was taking it, and am still not smoking a week after I stopped taking it, so at least it gave me the help that I so badly needed at the start. (Although I admit there are times when I could still quite happily smoke.)

I think like all medications, some will react badly to Champix, whilst others will have no problems at all, so no-one should be put off by horror stories.

(For the record, it didn`t make me depressed or suicidal in any way at all.)

Champix V Cigs

I have been taking Champix for 30 days and it is 16days since I smoked and I have no real desire to do so which is great!

Like many of you, I had side effects at first (loss of sleep and feeling sick were the most notable) but as time has gone by these have become less. My GP is adamant that the side effects are not necessarily down to the Champix and could just be my body adjusting to life without cigarettes.

Around day 3 the cravings were bad, but this could be due to withdrawal as Champix is not like NRT therapies and is not replacing the nicotine lost through not smoking.

Sorry for those of you who are still suffering either because of Champix or not, but the fact that you are not smoking is fantastic and you deserve all the praise you are given.

Most of us are on Champix for 12 weeks and the way I look at it

12 weeks of blue pills versus 30 years of Cigs – no contest. :D

Stay strong

i picked my stop date on day 10 and new i could smoke as much as i wanted too the first week....... but the more i tried to smoke more the more i hated it. so stopping was quite easy. just hope it stays this way
