21 Weeks and a Drunken Birthday Weekend...

...and still no cigs!!!

My first birthday for 26 years or so - and no cigs passed my lips, and more importantly didn't really think about them - only when the only two people who did smoke went out and came back in smelling of smoke.

And I was well gone with the booze - so although I feel like cr*p today - I'm really proud of this.

And it was so great coz the bar was fantastic, really full and buzzing, and I didn't have to go outside to smoke.

Haven't been around much lately - work has been a bit mental - but I do try and keep up with what everyone is doing. So great to see familiar names doing well.

To end my birthday weekend - HERE'S TO US!!!

Happy Belated birthday, you did a fantastic job over the week-end and you should be very proud of yourself.

I know you were really struggling, have the cravings eased off now?

Thanks for the message.

I think around Xmas I has a real change with the craves - they went to almost a whisper - and were easy to handle.

They're even less now - not saying they've gone completely - but they are so manageable. Its like passing a Chinese Restaurant and thinking "Oh I fancy that" then you pass and the feeling is gone.

Its a bit like no longer needing the crutch to walk any more isn't it :)

And how great is it to suddenly not have the need for those 'things' and to be able to see that you really just don't need them in your life in order for things to happen the way you want.

Here's to freedom! and as you've so rightly put it.. here's to us!!

Well done on doing the party challenge.. now you know you are on a good solid quit eh! :)

As always - cheers mate.

Must say - after my first non-smoking holiday last Oct, then my first non smoking Xmas and the build up, now a non smoking birthday - and not giving in to cigs - not one puff!! - makes me believe I've got a solid quit going.

I was out at lunch yesterday and my rabidly anti smoking friend was saying how well I've done - and how I should keep it up.

And it really hit me - that I'm determined to succeed at this. I've gone through the pain, the loss, the emotions, the cravings etc that we all have - and I've come out the other side feeling f****** great! (except the gut!! - thats next to go!)

So yes - the crutch has gone!

I think alot of the time while you're quitting you are also getting used to the non-smoking you, and for a little while you're not sure you like the new you.. then the demon loses his grasp on you and you start to regain control of both body and mind again, and no longer are you a slave to the brainwashing that nicotine has had you under.

When you get that moment of 'i've done this!', nothing can beat it.. its like for that one split moment you get this feeling of utter satisfaction and pride and you kinda want to tell the world :).

Something i think you are starting to really feel right now.. and isn't it great!

Happy birthday

Hi Happy Birthday

I can see light at the end of the tunnel

But the candle is decidedly dim

I only stopped smoking at Christmas

And that was done on a whim

If only we knew when we started

How hooked we’d finally become

Oh if only you’d told me more firmly

Now I’m blaming my Mum

It seemed so easy when starting

The thought of quitting not rough

And in reality we now know

That quittings Dam Tough

Reaching 21 weeks without smoking is tremendous and you are so right to acknowledge your own achievement. I, too, have found that I feel really chuffed with myself when I've conquered different hurdles without the fags.......first glass of vino at home, first holiday, first visit to a friend's home who loves a good gossip with lots of vino and fags, first party, first Christmas.......it's magic, isn't it?! And, Happy Birthday to you too! Well done.

Its such a lovely feeling when you've been absolutely blottoed to wake up in the morning and know you haven't succumbed to the evil weed.
