My reason is because of my health :o)

Hey guys i'm Nat.

So i'm going to be quitting smoking as of tomorrow (I was going to do it as of today but I have 9 cigs left and I know i'll end up smoking them, so thought i'd smoke them and be done with it!)

I've been smoking since I was 14, i'm nearly 21 now.

My reason for giving up is my doctor says I have narrowing of the arteries and I have an ultrasound this coming Wednesday so they can have a look. My feet and hands are really cold & its getting worse. My toes really hurt at the mo, so I googled what the doc says I have & a lady who's 23 posted something on the site saying lost a leg due to it! I know smoking isn't going to be helping my arteries and it's scared the life out of me that it could be this serious.

I don't actually have any other reasons to quit.. this might sound bad but I enjoy it.

But basically I wanna keep my limbs and i'm also pretty worried about clotting, but i'm quite worried that I feel like I need to quit rather than want to... Not sure if thats the right attitude?

I am 100% sure I need to though..

Hi Nat,

I enjoyed it also, I stopped on a whim as the thought of stopping scared the life out of me. So far it has been a fairly straight forward 12 days with out cravings (I used Alan Carrs Easy Way audio book).

I'm a clotter, over 3 years I've had 1 confirmed DVT, 1 expected DVT

and 3 Pulmonary Embolisms (1 treated, thought the other 2 were a chest infection!)..I'll be 32 this year. I'm now a lifer on Warfarin until they find a better treatment. In terms of arteries and long term impacts...they've never tested me so not too sure.

You're doing the right thing...what more can I say?

Congratulations on making the decision to quit tomorrow. I've found that remembering my reasons for quitting whenever I had a crave was very much why my quit was successful. Every reason is personal and I was already into mine by 4 months when my ex-husband announced that he'd been told he HAD to quit by a vascular surgeon at our local hospital. After being admitted to hospital via A&E after excruciating pain in his foot, it was found that he had critical lower limb ischaemia. This means that he is due (next week) to have bypass surgery in his leg. If this is unsuccessful, his leg will be amputated. The sole cause of his condition.........smoking. And, do you know?......he is finding it so difficult to quit because it's "been thrust upon him". So, once again, congratulations on quitting and I wish you all the very best. x

You're both doing the right thing, I'm doing the right thing, we're all doing the right thing. Nat it does not matter the reason what matters is you have a reason to stop which is bad but good. It may make it easier for you to stop and I wish you well in your quit.

Stav do we still have much more to learn about you. You take care I'm happy your quit is going so well.

Jack:)
