1 YEAR!!

Wow this Penthouse is posh - well worth the wait! I can't say it was a really easy journey although it seems a long time ago now that I went through the initial pain

It has been very much like climbing a mountain - something I read about early on in my quit. This mountain definitely started off quite steep and tricky - it did level off a bit then got steep again. About half way up, the going got SO much easier, to the point that I forgot I was climbing it. But then every now and then, there came a little tricky section but i knew that if I could get over it, then I would face the next tricky section with more confidence.

On more than one occasion, I thought I'd made it and got to the top, only to find there was still further to climb.

Through all the pain of a sometimes tricky climb, there was one thing I was ALWAYS sure of, and that was that I would NOT fall off - that would mean starting again right from the bottom and getting up that steep initial section again.

To all those who are setting out on this journey - be prepared (read, read and read some more!) and don't give up easily.

Really good post Jerry, just over the half way mark myself and feeling strong - don't want to smoke ever again and keep reminding myself not to get complacent though.

Also like the mountain an-alogy, have usually heard the one about it taking a year or an orbit around the sun.

Thanks everyone - one thing is for sure, I couldn't have got here without all of you. I have tried and failed so many times -but I was so determined that this time I wouldn't fail. Even so, there were times that I thought I couldn't do it, I'd come up with some excuse or other to have a ciggy. But then I'd log on to here and read somewhere that there is no excuse for smoking, it was just that nico-demon at his old tricks again.

At times I would scream at the nico-demons to p*ss off and leave me alone - and I mean scream!:eek:

But it was all worth it - I am now free...

and LOVING this penthouse, so warm and cosy when it's so cold outside!

Thanks to everyone else - it is so great to get so much support. Your support was all I needed, no patches, gum or inhalators - that goes to show how much strength there is in that support!!

edited to say - I have absolutely NO qualms about using patches, gum, or any method! Anything that stops you from lighting up again is worth it in my book! I was merely saying what strength there is in peer support

I agree JL, I have had a few failed attempts and never thought I could have made any more than a day without some sort of NRT, but I attribute the success of my early quit to this forum and also the information available through links on here. I would advise anyone stopping to come on here rather than to put their faith in any patch, gizmo or gadget, but as you say Nikki, I wouldn't put anyone down for using NRT but from my personal experience and friend's experiences NRT has a very high percentage failure rate.
