This may seem odd.

But I was at a newsagent today buying gum and was totally shocked to see that a pack of Silk Cut 100s was £6.25!!!!!

Only a thought for the day - GOD - the amount of £ I threw down the drain!!

I was similarly amazed when looking at the price'o'fags..... its ludicrous... i used to tell myself that i was being canny as i prefered baccy anyhow and so it wasn't costing me as much as the straights smokers to make myself smell bad etc etc....

I'm not too bothered about the duty on them anymore... in fact i'm lookingforward to the next budget when i will hear people harping on... as i did last year.. and i can smugly sit there, not worrying about it...

Beer however... now theres a different kettle of fishies... :D

Know how you feel. I only stopped 7 weeks ago and last week I noticed that B&H have gone up 14p/20 in that short time. (ok, I admit it, I like being able to walk past the fag kiosk in Asda without having to stop)

It actually doesnt' seem that long ago i said boldly : 'When they put the price of cigs up to over £5.00 i'm going to quit.. and yet despite the £5 barrier being vastly broken it took til this year to actually quit.

Its funny but it did seem that no matter what the price, we were always able to find the money for the damn things.

Out of interest? how many of you have added up how much you will save in 1 year of not smoking, and then visited a holiday website to see what kind of holidays you can afford with that kind of money? or a new car ? perhaps a large plasma screen tv ?

I agree when Im on my way home from work in the mornings (school cleaner ) I call in the shop with my friend its lovely because my bill comes to 80p paper/gum hers comes to well over £10 for her 40 fags for the day. Bloody hell I done that for 35 years where did I get the money i dont know.xxxx

I always bought them in 200s at the supermarket £60 ish every week! Blimey how scary is that.

However I went to the garage today and looked at 20 Marlboros and they looked pretty, I'm not saying I wanted to buy them but they did look pretty. Good marketing people.

£60.00 a week or thereabouts on fags??? That's horrendous

I smoked roll-ups and got those from abroad - 5.00 a week was the cost - 300 squid saved a year including the papers. Don't think I'll be doing anything lavish with my savings

Cost wasnt my reason for quitting either, I also smoked rollies and if I got cheap baccy could smoke for £6 a week, so dont think I will be going to the Caribbean. I really cant imagine paying nearly £6.00 for a packet of fags to stand in the cold and light them and then throw the nub end away, how mad is that .

Cost me about £35 quid a week - scandalous. Trouble is I'm probably spending that on chocolate now!! Well not quite.:)

I worked out I was spending over £200 a month on ciggies.

Haven't seen the benefit of giving up yet as have been spending so much money "treating" myself:p

But the £2400 annual saving will be paying towards my holiday to Las Vegas and Los Angeles next year!

Think I'm up to about £700-800 saved - but haven't really noticed the difference with other treats - boooooooooze, eating out, more boooooze etc.

But will reign it in a bit in the new year.

State - I'm off to Vegas in April - can't wait. But could be a bit of a trigger time as they smoke everywhere (well apart from in restaurants).

I bought my menthols abroad 3000 at a time. It paid for the second holiday...

Still around £3.00 a pack plus OH smoking rollies so it adds up.

Just hope I dont lose out on the second holiday..;)

Hi AG

You can not smoke in public places in Vegas, however you can some in certain parts of the casinos, stand alone bars (not serving food) AND strip clubs!!

I've definitely noticed that money stays in my purse longer these days. I go to the cash point machine about half as often as I used to.
