When are you most Vulnerable

When are you most vulnerable? Everyone is different, we all have moments of weakness. For me a night out with friends can become a problem, eventhough the smoking ban has been enforced in Dublin for awhile now!

When are your moments where your guard is down? Please comment!:(

Hi pivory, interesting post, it will be interesting to read the replies of others.

For me, its first thing in the morning - although I'm getting better at that one - and as I dont sleep well and am often awake during the night, I feel it then too as I used to smoke during the night, I'm ashamed to now admit.

Luckily for me, I dont live near to anywhere I could easily go to buy fags and would have to get the car out to do so - which makes the middle of the night an easy one to manage! When I am out shopping, I've not had the urge to smoke, so thats working in my favour at the moment. If the urge and the opportunity were to happen at the same time, I'm not sure I could trust myself, but hey its only day 11 and feel I'm doing well. I will stay away from the what if thingy!! xx

Hi VivienneC, pivory

moments of weakness

well I am like you Pivory and smoked in the night, about a 3rd of a cig then back to bed, waking at least 4 times a night. since stopping its been twice a night, usually go to loo. and no cigs, doesnt even cross my mind.

my hard time is after break fast and need into go to toilet if you know what I mean. also walking in house after work but thats getting better.

what I find strange is an odd sensation I get in my mouth sometimes... hard to explain sort of metal taste which feels like I need something in my mouth to settle down... this is when my craving is worse.

hada good day today hope weekend passes ok

good luck everyone

Sue :):):)

Strangely...

I thought it would be at the pub which I frequent on a regular basis ;)...alas no, that has not been much of an issue - how much is due to poor weather I do not know, but I do know I am happier for not tramping outside in all weathers for a fix.

Playing golf has been the one time where I have really struggled, irrelevant of whether I am with a smoker or not. Four hours in a game that is very stop-start and both frustrating and rewarding throughout always gets me thinking about smoking.

At the office is when I miss smoking. I used to have 3 or 4 fag breaks each day and it was nice just to get away from the c**p on

my desk for 5 minutes.

If its any consolation my "vulnerability" has now been fine tuned to one night!!

Friday nights.

Both my husband and I unwind with a bottle or two of wine after a hard week at work and its that moment after a glass or two that we both go "now a cig would go down a treat" and then we remember how bloody hard it has been to get to the point where you suggest a cig rather than smoke one!

Will always miss the Friday night smoke a little like I miss "that pub in town that is now a hairdressers"!! :p

Thinking back now I'm a non smoker, there were lots of triggers for me, I didn't think of them like that then but, getting up in the morning was automatic smoke time, picking my horses out for a bet, speaking on the phone, leaving the house, entering the house, as soon as my wife went to bed (she has chest problems), turning the tele on to watch a race, before boarding a bus, getting off a bus, before I entered work, leaving work. Funnily enough after a meal wasn't one, nor after a bit of the other, but I'm sure there were others. Fortunately now I just get the odd thought. Never thought I'd get to this stage although people on here told me I would. David

I am a non smoker now, i rarely, but sometimes still, think about the darn things,

Biggest downfall, alcohol...triggers cravings badly, as i used to chain smoke with booze. However, I do have to say, it does become easier as you go on. I can testify to this as currently have had two large glasses wine, and not even thought bout them.

second biggest: stress: ...I think" I feel rubbish,"

cigs will help.... They do not, There is no stress relieving chemical in them at all.....

In the beginning it was the usual tale. Morning, meals, and bedtime. I am in month 4 now and what gets me is what I call "notions." A great example is when I was riding with my wife and she was going to the hair dresser. When she said she would drop me off at the house the thought that hit me was OK, I can smoke. I see the trash needs taking out and the notion will hit me...Take the trash out and smoke on the way to the bin. The good thing about this is a notion does not cause cursing and tears.

LOl yes a lot are just automatic triggers. Like the coffee , after meal, wine, holiday. leaving work

I've just discovered the getting off of public transport one too, but it is nice to be able to go somewhere without going into drug withdrawal halfway thru the trip!

I don't miss smoking now, not really even craving them that much either, but there have been moments where i've 'thought' about them .. and recently too. So i'll list these:

During times of heavy stress at work. Those times where you feeling like you are doing the work of 2 or 3 people.

When life throws you some knocks.. eg. financial trouble, death in family or relationship trouble... times when you know in the past you've have probably smoked a ton of them while you got your act together again.

It's ok to think about them is what i've found, it reminds you that you are still healing.. what matters is that you don't allow the thoughts to become a reality, and all you got to do is not smoke during these stressful times. You've set out to quit, so you must see it through, no matter how hard life seems.

I was at my most vulnerable and irritable in the morning - nictotine levels low.

I gave up this time after a day of 6 fags, and stopped smoking at least 12 hrs before I up on the monday morning.

Other than that, booze, weight gain and boredom. All 3 best avoided, where's the pies
